So...DH is no longer a police officer.
...and it's the best thing that's happened to us. It was scary at first when he resigned, but now he's working with troubled teens at a boot camp for kids. I can't tell you the weight that's off our shoulders, with the cash out after his resignation we paid off all but two bills. (house and car) He's no longer coming home super stressed, sore from a fight or ill tempered because the dept wouldn't listen to him.

We live in the town he worked as an LEO, and we get stopped a bit being asked if he's coming back. I think that's the only downside for us, because he feels guilty for leaving.
He was a good cop, a decent cop. Is it selfish I'm just glad he's done with it?

PS- having him home at night and not worrying is a huge plus too.

Just wanted to share the good news with you guys, heres to hoping you have a good evening.

2. I am glad to hear it!
Some jobs just require that you pay too high a price to do them well...

I'm glad he found an alternative.

And no, I don't think you're being selfish. You need him alive and well, and at home...And he needs those things too...

Congratulations!

:hi:

6. My wife was on my case for a year
for me to leave LEO. finally took me being in a gunfight for her to put her foot down. Best decision she ever made. No stress, more money, less worry. I volunteer as the county rescue chief to get my Public safety fix. I wish y'all the best luck

7. My "little brother" finishes police academy in two weeks...and it scares the heck out of us
But he was going to join the army or become a cop. Sigh... neither a choice that seems very safe.

8. that is good news for you...
super stressed is not a good thing to be... he should be pleased that he made a difference in your community but ultimately we do what's best for all concerned (esp family)

(my daughter's boyfriend is US Marshall and lost his partner just a few weeks ago - killed serving a warrant - I understand the stress)

9. Reminds me of one of my DH's classmates
We go to reunions every 5 years, and I had tagged this guy as "most likely not going to be there for the next reunion." But he retired, and changed into a different person because of the lack of stress. He said that it was really great to rediscover the fact that most people aren't sociopaths.

10. That is good news.
Leaving a job like that must come with a period of adjustment. I'm happy that the burden of stress on you all has been lightened.
