Public Policy Polling survey shows Bachmann surging in New Hampshire

Michelle Bachmann is up to 18% in these latest numbers, second only to Mitt Romney at 25%. Her net favorability is up 20 points, and his is down 18.

I personally think this is great for Democrats. Nate Silver already called Bachmann the favorite to win Iowa- and why wouldn't she be? She is the only candidate that energizes the Tea Party (besides possibly Herman Cain, and who knows how long he'll last). She's never been pro-choice in her past, has a firm hatred for science and homosexuals, and best of all isn't a Mormon. A lot of Mike Huckabee's 2008 staff has been signing on for her campaign, including a lot of the Iowa people that led his grassroots win. If Bachmann won Iowa, and then even came close to winning New Hampshire, I think she would be the person to beat. Because what's up after NH? South Carolina! And if she could actually WIN New Hampshire, which state could host Mitt Romney or Tim Pawlenty's comeback?

Independents would swing hard to Obama if Bachmann was the nominee. His reelection would be in the bag. The only question is if the downticket races would be affected enough to put the House of Representatives into play.

By the way, it's interesting that New Hampshire is an open primary. Remember when Rush Limbaugh got all those Republicans to vote in the Texas Democratic primary???
