I'd like to say "farewell" to all the people who are leaving...
Edited on Thu Jul-07-11 06:29 AM by brooklynite
I'm referring to all the voices again yelling "Primary Obama!", over the SS/Medicare proposal that he hasn't actually proposed.

If you're serious, you'd better get out from behind your computer (I guess you can take it with you) and hit the road since you need to:

1. find a candidate to actually run against the President, and I don't think any of the usual suspects are going to be willing (it would also be nice if the candidate was electable);

2. raise a boat-load of money to match the estimated $60 M the Obama campaign raised in he last three months; and

3. get all your field operations organized to get ballot access, campaign teams and all the other minutiae.

Or, to reference an old, old fable: who will bell the cat?

2. What do the words, "THE WHITE HOUSE CONFIRMED.."
mean to you? That it is some 11 dimensional trick?

What a load of excrement.

7. It's just morning Hippie punching - the almighty independent voter is
sought after (the excuse used for more radical right wing policies) whereas the liberal vote is an entitlement - otherwise there is much spleen draining if the liberal vote demands results.

4. I hope the Dems will be out seducing the almighty "independent" voter with their
wildly unpopular capitulation to the Republicans and the uber wealthy.

8. How about those who've just given up?
Obviously a primary candidate isn't going to happen. Obama wields too much power for a primary or liberal third party to be anything other than ridiculously Quixotic. I know that.

So we're not supposed to primary bad candidates because "Oh my, we can't do that we need every Dem to insure a Democratic majority leader".

We're not supposed to criticize or put pressure on before hand because "Oh my, they know best. Let's not rush to judgment or assume what they are going to do before it happens. We have to trust Obama.

We're not supposed to have third party groups run critical ads because "Oh my, that isn't helping. It just gets in the way of the negotiations and gives the other side ammunition."

We're not supposed to complain after he caves and after this stuff goes through because "Oh my, well what was he supposed to do in the face of such rampant obstructionism and well you're not president so you don't understand and you've never run for office and Obama doesn't control the senate or the house and......on and and on and on."

So in short, the position we are supposed to be in is
1) Don't complain or fight before negotiations are done.
2) Don't complain or fight after the shitty deal is cut.
3) Don't primary.
4) Lie back and be happy you're getting fucked by a guy who puts a nicer spin on it than the other guy.

Great. Good times had by all. So no, I'm not advocating a primary. I'm just pretty much accepting that we're fucked and even "our leaders" are fucking us and there's not a goddamn thing any of us can do about it.

our elected officals to ensure that the safety nets in our society are maintained?

I haven't seen one.

26. not from my perspective. Vi5 makes the statement
"We're not supposed to criticize or put pressure on before hand because "Oh my, they know best. Let's not rush to judgment or assume what they are going to do before it happens. We have to trust Obama."

Criticism can be very helpful. But when all it amounts to is faultfinding and making assumptions it's destructive to everyone imo.

I don't see anyone saying not to put pressure on our elected officials. This OP is a bit antagonistic, but it doesn't say do nothing.

12. Both the NYT and the Washington Post have front page articles on Obama's proposed cuts
You are sounding increasingly desperate to support a wolf in sheep's clothing.

13. I sense no hint of "wolf" in Obama.
Sheeplike negotiations? that's his starting point, until he caves.

Leadership like his we need like we needed 4 more years of a Cheney-Bush administration.
