Wednesday, August 3, 2011, the day the US doesn't pay its debts
The 3rd of August is a Wednesday. That may not be very important to most Americans but its very important to some. Social Security payments go out on Wednesdays, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, depending on the recipient's birth month. So I suppose a third of Social Security recipient's will be the first to feel the disruption.

1. You are assuming they will stop payment of the checks on or after the 3rd.
In an election cycle.

I doubt it.
Possible, not probable.

The plan seems more to "scare" those under 50 into accepting the demise of Soc. Sec.program when they reach retirement age.
