Le Freak, C’est Chic

by John Cole

I know that I am contractually obligated as a blogger to immediately freak out about this:

OMG OBAMA IS WORSE THAN BUSH! HE IS COMING FOR YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY! FOLLOW ME! FOLLOW ME TO FREEDOM!

I’m going outside now. I actually think I will wait until something happens before I join everyone else in the craziness.

The Obama administration is pushing back against a Wednesday night report that the president is prepared to offer cuts to Social Security as part of a deal to raise the debt ceiling.

“The story overshoots the runway,” said a senior administration official. “The President said in the State of the Union that he wanted a bipartisan process to strengthen Social Security in a balanced way that preserves the promise of the program and doesn’t slash benefits.”

“While it is definitely not a driver of the deficit,” the official added, “it does need to be strengthened.”

4. Okay, good. 'Strengthened' means eliminating the cap and lowering the Retirement Age.
Good to know. :)

5. Sorry, Mr. Cole. It's a million degrees outside.
Inside, it's the attack on Social Security. Outside it's the attack on the environment.

My money is on Social Security outliving the environment.

Once the water is over the damn, then it is too late to put the genie back in the bottle.

I gotta say that I don't like the way the White House pushed back on this. I don't want a bi-partisan process. I want somebody in the White House to fight for my partisan side and convince the public to push the other party in our direction. A bi-partisan process is likely to result in a pile of excrement, much like the bi-partisan tax proposal we got in late December of last year. It was bi-partisan because the supposed leader of the Democratic Party unconditionally surrendered to the other side and took a bunch of Senators with him.
