Does everyone see what just happened?
By Obama and the Dems not being extremely and forcefully clear about defending Medicare and SS the Repukes and their corporate media flunkies have hung these proposed cuts around their neck. When will the Dems realize that the Repukes are not interested in negotiation, they are only interested in getting their way and are willing to lie, cheat and steal to do so.

I do not think that it's a stretch to say that if the Democratic party does not immediately and forcefully say that MM And SS cuts are off the table the Repukes will not only get those cuts, but they will effectively be able to lay the blame for those cuts at the Dems feet and slaughter them in 2012.

1. That sounds about right.
And that's a bald-faced lie about Obama bringing a knife to a gunfight.

He's bringing a hotdish to share.

2. Exactly.
Here in NC our governor forcefully came out against many measures put in the biennial budget by the Republican legislature. It passed the legislature. She VETOED it. They passed it again, over her veto.

It is theirs. There is no way that anything that comes out of this piece of excrement will be blamed on her.

People will remember that in the next election, and if they don't remember we will remind them.

Not fighting at the national level make the Democrats culpable in part, and makes us easy targets because (the campaign ads will point out) WE were in charge when terrible things happened. If we can't make a clear case that we fought to prevent the terrible things, we will get the blame.

3. They're already using that "not shovel ready" quote...
straight from O's mouth in a commercial that's being run quite frequently in the Triangle. Obama admitted yesterday during the big Twitterfest that he underestimated the magnitude of the recession; that's another straight-from-the-horse's-mouth ad in the making.

The ads will be swift and brutal and he gets no sympathy from me since he's brought this shit on himself. He'll be fine, though: Wall Street, academia, or some bullshit Third Way Clintonesque foundation. The rest of us? I'm worried.

6. I keep on thinking that Obama
Is playing some sort of advanced 3 dimensional chess game with the pukes, getting them to put themselves into an ever more precarious position yet whenever he has had a chance to burn them ( letting the tax cuts expire, forcing them to shut down government) he let's them off the hook and ends up owning their crap ass position. I am at a loss to explain it, and I have read no one on the Dems side who can give a coherent explanation of it. Can anybody put some shine on this turd and explain how this strategy will work out in the end?

Welcome to DU.

4. "When will the Dems realize that the Repukes are not interested in negotiation"
They know it.

They're hoping we don't know it so they can keep passing their betrayals off as best efforts and honest misjudgments.

They know they're screwing us.

They're happy to do it.

Their leaders? Maybe not so much. Or maybe they just don't care. After all they are pretty well set.

8. But if they do that now, they'll be blamed for blowing the negotiation.
If we had been upfront and consistent from the onset, none of this would've backfired on us.
