1. Don't blame the lawyers |

What could they have done differently? It is the job of the citizens to decide what behavior is acceptable in our society.
The prosecutors had to bring the charges. There was a dead baby. And there was sufficient evidence to charge and convict. They certainly gave the jury every bit of evidence available.
The defense attorneys did the best they could to throw shit against the wall and see what sticks and cause the jury to minimize or dismiss the available evidence.
In our system of government, sometimes the guilty go free. That is the trade off for our judicial system and constitutional protections.
I personally think that the jury represents how stupid we Americans have become. Our society is deteriorating. Economically and socially. We elect power hungry asses to pee on our legs and then believe them when they tell us it is raining. We let murders go free because we can't separate CSI from reality.
When Bush's regime ended, I thought we left Wonderland. I see we are still through the looking glass upside down and backwards.

...I am blaming how bull shitty our legal system has become.
What gauls me is that as usual the prosecution waaaaaaaaaaaay over charged and the circus then started.
And about the guilty going free: I would rather than 100 guilty persons go free than one innocent person pay the price of a wrongful conviction.
I just am sick of the circus that has visited all three branches of government.
Rant over...:hi:

Sounds like you are blaming the lawyers. I personally don't think they overcharged.
Guilty going free: you made my point. We have created a system with significant protections that not only protect the innocent, but also protect the guilty. And in doing so, sometimes the guilty go free.
Circus: I do agree with you there. I am not certain what we can do to improve the situation. I disagree with the idea that we should hire professional jurors. But perhaps if more people stepped up and completed their jury duty, it would help the quality of the pool.

...yes, they over charged. If they had charged child neglect or abuse, there would have been a conviction. This crap is all because of playing to the media.

5. I think you and I may often be on opposing sides of an issue |

They did charge abuse and neglect as a basis for one of the murder charges--it was also dismissed by the jury.
I disagree with you that they were playing to the media. Professional prosecutors know that the media has a warped view of the legal system. Their jobs are to do justice. They did the best they could with what they had.
You blame the state and the "games they play." What games? They did not throw shit against the wall regarding incest or murder by the father or brother. They did not suggest that the mother and father are so dysfunctional that she should not be responsible for her behavior. They were not playing games. They were giving the jury the information they had--all of it. Unfortunately, the murderer hide the body so well, it decomposed beyond the ability to successfully test it.
As in all professions, there are some bad apples. In this case, I do not agree with you that the state played games. They just did their jobs.
