13. Allegedly the highest circulation English language paper in the world.
Says something about us English speakers, eh?

I'm sure some other sleazoid will rise up to take its place. Probably another Murdoch-owned rag... unless this scandal can been proved to be company-wide (b/c you KNOW it is.)

i.e. this isn't firing those who did the deed.

In fact, the top editors/executives are still in power.

9. Fox "News" viewers won't care, because they won't know.
Fox "News" certainly won't report on this. And remember, the right is perfectly okay with warrentless wiretapping and unchecked spying. It's for the good of the country, you know. If those people on their cell phones had nothing to hide, why should they care that Rupert Murdoch is listening in on their calls?

Sometimes it pays to be a stupid idiot. Fox "News" viewers are a good case in point.

46. Andy Coulson's the fall guy
Wade is apparently being protected for the time being whereas there's already evidence that Andy Coulson authorised payments to police and may have committed perjury over those payments (ironically in a trial over perjury).

Coulson though is close to David Cameron, having been hired by him as communications director (PR man) for the Conservative Party. If Coulson goes down then it either shows Cameron as having shocking judgement about those around him or he was aware of the allegations and chose to ignore them. Both options are pretty damaging for Cameron.

The absolute best thing that could come from all of this (since prosecuting Murdoch is highly unlikely) is that News Corp could fail the Fit and Proper test for media ownership in the UK which could lead to them having to sell off all of their media holdings in the UK.

12. Despite the bluff
and the still craven approach of Murdoch influenced pols the damage is too great, the incidents are still entrenched in the whole org of that paper and could lead far beyond into the rest of the sorry "empire".

So shred the paper and what about the staff? Fly them out quick like the Saudis on 9/11?

Now the new line in the sand is to contain the investigation into a wrap up of the fish wrapper.

Still pretty clear that it is not only Murdoch British tabloids that are into Stazi methods. I would like to know if the UK corporate pals who "may" have been spied on or blackmailed by J. Edgar Murdoch are going to Enron his behind or would be content if his services were still needed to cut loose one company which he could buy back and "restore" to its proper dignity as a propaganda rag.

The British parliament is still calling for independent investigations. Which in American politics, translates to "lets do nothing".

To answer your other question, click the button below. Most of the news I get now comes from Al Jazeera and Deutche Welle and Democracy now which airs on Link TV.

27. Roughly the same, but produced by a different team
It's said The Sun will now start printing on Sunday. So effectively he's sacking one team (doubtless they'll take a few of them on for The Sun) and telling the other to expand to produce the company's Sunday tabloid.

Of course, the main problems found have tended to be from a few years ago, so those responsible aren't necessarily going to suffer. For instance, Rebekah Brooks, now head of Murdoch's papers in Britain, was the NotW editor at the time, and Rupert Murdoch has already said her job is safe.

39. Reading James Murdoch's quote in the Guardian article I can't help
but wonder if they are closing the NoW to make it harder for people to sue them?

We have also admitted liability in civil cases. Already, we have settled a number of prominent cases and set up a Compensation Scheme, with cases to be adjudicated by former High Court judge Sir Charles Gray. Apologising and making amends is the right thing to do.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/blog/2011/jul/07/news-of-the-world-phone-hacking-live-coverage

I'm sure that "Compensation Scheme" is going to run dry long before everyone who they've wronged is satisfied. So, why not dissolve the company and argue for years in court that the parent company has no liability because they "didn't know" about the hacking?

And, it tries to make a scapegoat of this paper's female head offering a lone-gunman lone-nut excuse right out of a public relations playbook to end the phone tapping scandal and save Rupert's son.

I ain't buying it.
