About "Breaking News" what good is it??? |
|
Edited on Thu Jul-07-11 11:22 AM by Stuart G
Tell me, do I really need to know "right away" that some tabloid Mudock rag, is not going to publish after Sunday? really now. I can wait. But here or there, it is "breaking news". So what? Do I really need to know "right away" some gal who was accused of killing her daughter, was found innocent of that killing? the other day..it was "breaking news" So what?
Yes, I am a news junkie too and want to be "UP TO DATE" but does it serve me any good to know instantly about a news story? And occasionally, the story changes to something the original report did not include. It is not what I first read about.
...Any news story?..except three types: 1. Impending weather or earthquake, valcano, type stuff that... I need to get out of the way of very quick. 2. Traffic Jams due to some event that I can avoid. 3. Something I can do instantly that might help someone out, that needs to be done now
that is it..
Usually I can get a news story 2 or 3 hours after it happens from radio or the computer. Waiting doesn't matter at all. No matter what the story is. That is my rant for today. thanks, Stuart G. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

2. I don't mind breaking news, as long as it's actually news. |
|
I only read stories that interest me. I don't like to see non-news stories, entertainment crap, and sports in LBN, though. They push the real news down and I might miss something after being away from DU. Otherwise, if it's news and it's breaking, it's probably important to someone. If it's not important to me, I don't click the thread.

but some editor decided it was "breaking" and needed that extra heading. ...like in the old days..
"extra" "extra" read all about it. .......now, not many would recall that one, but I do. So what..:bounce:

at the editors that put it in. Sure, it is interesting to know about it..I saw that "breaking" at Huffington Post a little earlier about the Murdock rag stopping publication.
I see the "breaking news" at MSNBC.come and many other news sites. it is not aimed at anybody in particular, just the idea of it. Do I need to know about it right now, or can I wait a while.

5. It use to mean something....now it's just to get your attention. |
|
Our local news station says "Breaking News" during the morning newscast about any news that happened overnight since their 10:00pm news. Really, a fender bender at midnight has been "Breaking News" before.

10. I don't think you really are a news junkie, otherwise you would need that news fix as soon... |
|
as you could get it. maybe a very mild news addiction, but definitely not a junkie.

11. I hate to date myself..but I was a news junkie about .."Watergate" |
|
I had to know ever single friggen detail. and I wondered would it ever get to Nixon? What John Dean said couldn't really be true..could it? I must have watched those hearings for hours..all hours...Hell............. I even brought a TV into the classroom and had the students watch it...(I taught U.S. History at the time..)
Maybe I aint as addicted now..maybe.
