Study: Ohio tax breaks not creating jobs in Cleveland area
Posted: 11:57 AM

CLEVELAND - Ohio tax breaks for businesses aren't working the way they're supposed to, according to a non-profit group's study of Northeast Ohio.

The report by Good Jobs First said the state tax breaks, like Enterprise Zones and Community Reinvestments Areas, have led to suburban sprawl and increased poverty in urban areas.

The tax breaks were originally intended to encourage businesses to relocate to urban areas, but suburban communities have been allowed to use the state tax incentives to compete with each other for businesses, said the report.

Cleveland lost 11 companies to surrounding areas between 1996 and 2005, according to the report.

1. How can we
seriously expect jobs to be created when does not seem to be a real issue. It is more like a joke that you can laugh about at a cocktail party for the privileged few. The laughter mush be a real raucous, these days.

Wealth is being created, (or funneled from us to some) and power is being concentrated, (as a portion of our own, personal power and any collective we might imagine). The ruling class postures itself, changes the world, and expects us to buy the expertise of their propaganda and political tools, even if it contradicts our actual experience or insights.

Reports can underscore this, but are they even necessary when the process and results are glaringly obvious in terms of societal impact?

The joke is on those of us who imagine that job creation really matters, or is a priority, to those who are moving money and manufacturing our consent to be dis-empowered and disenfranchised as this stage of the game.

2. All over Ohio. Small towns look like ghost towns.
The jobs were created in China, Asia, Tehran, any place
you could find cheap to slave labor.
