1. Later it will be too late.
Better to panic now and hope that it does some good.

21. Most of the panic we have seen has been for nothing
The panic in November cost us seats across the country. Still no one has apparantly learned any lessons.

3. +! but it sucks that now when he's about to do something, we all worry/panic.
It used to be we would be on the edge of our seats excited to listed to every word.

9. And most of those times we were disappointed. I like President
Obama, but am disappointed in a lot of things he hasn't done - like end these Goddamn wars.

4. Yes, there is a split at DU between pro-active and re-active members
just as in any group.

5. Jesus H. Christ on a pogo stick...
...do you people ever give up?

And by "you people", I refer to the contingent on DU who always, without fail, say "Wait! Wait until we know what's on the table! Wait until it's a done deal, don't say anything yet! It makes me uncomfortable when you criticize Obama, so for God's sake don't do it!"

This is a political discussion board. We talk about the issues of the day. Right now, there is a very important negotiation going on, and there are clear signals that "our side" is prepared to give in on bedrock Democratic programs. I for one oppose that and have let my own reps know I do not approve. Furthermore, I will happily post about it on this political discussion board.

If I say that I wish people would refrain from telling other people what not to say on a discussion board -- would I be guilty of the same? Ah, the imponderables...

11. "you people" could also apply
to those who jump the gun and respond to a potential situation as if it's a done deal- without offering anything other than doom-gloom it's all over now BabyBlue.

I think calling each other to action is great. But much of what is being said as I read around isn't doing that.

I think the OP's post is addressing that, but I could be wrong.

13. Well maybe we all should resist meta-issues...
...such as "OMG! People on DU are just so hysterical!"

and instead respond to particular posts that cause us to react. In other words, if you have a beef, take it up with the poster you have a beef with, and you know, have a discussion about it.

Instead of making an OP to whine about DUers who disagree with you, or your approach (that's the generic "you", not you in particular).

16. that's a reasonable idea-
but as you said we can't tell others what to say or think.

The only thing we can do is try and speak for ourselves, and perhaps to explain why we think others might benefit by hearing what we have to say.

6. Even if he wins, people here will say he failed.
There's always something he didn't say or do right. Watch. They will downplay any success and move on to another outrage about something that's going to happen.

8. With the articles
using the WH as a source it is more than likely a trial balloon. Which if that is the case they will gauge the reaction of the public. If the public is angry about the idea of SS cuts on the table, the WH will take them "off the table".

I think that is what you're seeing with DU members reacting to the idea put out by WH sources.

24. I said it was likely
however I'm probably wrong. I always assume I'm wrong after I give my opinion.

A trial balloon seems more likely than a Dem WH (articles quote WH sources) legitimately putting SS cuts on the table regardless what the public feels about it.

Like I said I'm probably wrong and a moron. :)

10. I'm trying to figure out how you can work up the nerve to mock others at the moment when they could
properly be mocking you.

I mean, you are one of the people who argued that critics were paranoid for thinking Obama would ever touch Social Security, correct?

Thanks for your sound political advice.

17. is the OP saying "don't object" to what you fear will happen?
not from what I read.

I see it more as a call to not panic,- NOT as a call to do nothing.

19. if fretting could keep bad things from ever happening, we'd all
be living well.

Are you advocating fretting? If so, I can't join you.

If you are advocating taking an action to avoid what many FEAR will happen, I'm interested in listening.
