1. If you don't mind me asking, how much have you given them in the past?
If they lost me they would lose a guy who had only sent them fifty bucks in the last two years. I haven't got much, I don't send much. But apparently losing you will deal them a great blow. Mind telling us how much?

59. get involved at the local level
In my state, the nominees at all levels are decided at county level conventions (before the primary-- occasionally you have a rogue primary challenger but it's the exception to the rule). Local elected offices are also considered a farm system for larger races. Last year the GOP challenger (tea party nutjob) to my congressman was a mayor of a small town. If you don't like who is running in your municipality, consider running yourself.

All politics is local. Your elected officials also work for YOU and whether you agree or disagree with them, you have the right to contact their office and let your opinion be heard.

I don't agree with the president 100% but I still support him (disclaimer-- I work on Democratic campaigns for a living and have to be prepared to work for anyone with a D next to their name. Last year I worked on a Blue Dog congressman's race where he barely pulled it off. Did I agree with him 100? No, but he was a lot better than his opponent who would have voted with House Democrats 0% of the time).

37. Actually, we do not have universal health care.
Maybe we have an marginal improvement in the current system and maybe not. It is far too soon to understand
all the unintended consequences of the law. I do know that the health care system in this country remains a
run away train that will take us all down sooner or later, one way or another. An this law did little or nothing,
to stop that train.

The host of other accomplishments......sorry I may have missed these. I got hung up on the extra-judiciary killing thing.

If they screw with Social Security and Medicare. It will be a hell of a lot worse, so you probably should be writing to your Senators and Representatives and the WH if you really care and tell them to stop fucking up the Democratic parties chances in 2012 by supporting bad policies.

64. Without a "revolt"
It will anyway. You don't get represented by continuing to vote for people who don't vote in your best interests. That just sends the message that it doesn't matter, and they might as well just get on board with Republicans and take the path of least resistance.

That's the entire problem here.

68. The Tea Party
There have been other instances when Republicans have pitched candidates out of office because their voters got angry over certain issues. Look at "Read my lips, no new taxes". We see what happened there.

That's what happens when you screw over the people that vote for you.

83. Call it what you like
But they helped Democrats gain or keep seats because of O'Donnell and Angle. George Bush also got canned because he upset the people that voted for him.

That's the process. If Democrats don't act like Democrats, Democrats will work within the process to make sure that those that don't do what they are supposed to do are no longer in office. It's really simple, and doesn't require a third party.

It requires the hard core Obama supporters to start speaking up and saying you are going too far, along with everyone else that is a Democrat.

Oh, they might go with the flow on the little things, but the things that are huge, and that matter, they don't. See Mary Landrieu. Blanche Lincoln got kicked to the curb because of her BS, too. I would have supported her challenger had I lived in Arkansas. Dems lost a seat because of her antics.

Obama did say, once elected, that it's up to us to keep the pressure on him to do the things he was elected to do. Threatening to deny him campaign cash is one way to put the pressure on.

Indeed, in this money-driven political paradigm we live in, it's the only thing politicians listen to.

20. To give another, you'd have to have given at least one prior
dime, and I do not believe you ever did to be blunt about it. Unless you are a former donor, your post is misleading and thus, not really honest. Please note, almost everyone on DU did in fact donate to the man who is now President.

85. And voted for him
and many volunteered in his campaign. And once again, he's going against Democratic principles, which means he's not really a Democrat because his policies align with Republicans. I voted for him because I wanted a Democrat, not a Republican.

43. That's fine. I'm not giving the DNC another dime. They have their corporate lords
for that. And MoveOn? I'll give them more than a dime. The war is no longer Democrats and Republicans. It's the corporations vs the people and the people have no power or representation. Thus my money to MoveOn.

the organization will certainly wither into dust.

60. I never gave a dime myself
Edited on Thu Jul-07-11 06:18 PM by JonLP24
not because I have a problem with their advocacy, I just rather donate to organizations such as the ACLU. Plus I have a lack of money. It took me two weeks to come up with the extra money to donate to DU.
