Trusting in the Republicans and trying to 'fix' Social Security problems
Discussions about raising the Social Security cap are focused on ensuring the viability of the Social Security System. There is no hurry at all to do this but in their constant quest to confuse issues Republicans have managed to get Social Security into the Debt Limit discussion. That said the talk is out there about raising the upper limit on which one must pay social security taxes in fact there may be no reason at all to have do this. However it is good to keep in mind that if the cap were to be removed the funds that would flood in would be sufficient to reduce the rate of taxation for both the individual and the employer.

One wonders why the Republicans aren't in favor of that? How about we offer to cut Social Security taxes in half. No longer would employers and employees each have to pay over 7% on wages - let's lower that to 3%, but in return remove the cap completely. If the Republicans are right that reduced taxes increases employment that should spur a hiring frenzy all across the land. It wouldn't bother me a bit either.
