When this crisis is over, I have a suggestion to |
|
save expenses generated by federal employees and that would include Congress and the White House. Instead of the fancy health insurance exchanges that all federal employees get for health care that are very expensive premiums because they must cover everyone regardless of their health and without the fear of large deductibles or cancellation like the rest of us peons must deal with, I think that everyone should go on Medicare. It would probably cost a third in premiums of what the federal government is paying now, which I believe would be a huge savings. Let's get the CBO on it to price it out.
Of course my reasoning is, that if Congress and the White House have only Medicare to rely on for their health coverage, they will be less cavalier in throwing senior citizens under the bus by trying to undermine it.

2. Since they are demanding sacrifice from everyone, it's |
|
time Congress et al sacrificed too and this could be on the table if only someone demands it be put there. Bernie Sanders? Dennis Kucinich? Where are you?

3. Dennis has tried. Bernie has tried. We have asked and demanded. |

Not going to happen. I hate being so pessimistic but the big money always wins out. Always. :cries:
I'm in Seattle. I've got two Dem Senators and a great Congressman, but I'm not sure either Senator would support such a move, my Congressman would, but at the risk of making you want to strangle me, gotta say it again -- the money rules.

4. I guess I'm not as pessimistic as you although I |
|
agree with you that money rules. I just remember that in my youth tobacco ruled yet some very determined people and activists pretty much got rid of it in our daily lives today. I think we can do the same with toxic Republicans and their undermining of our safety nets.

5. Well you DO make a good point about tobacco. Hmmmm. |

It was such a part of our national fabric that Boehner was handing out payouts from the industry on the HOUSE FLOOR! :eyes:
I think chip by chip we'll get there, but it'll be a while and it'll be a battle. But I'm ready. :7 :hi:
