Hire me!
Hire me! College grad resorts to wearing giant sandwich board in desperate search for a job
By Fiona Roberts

With unemployment at its highest level in 18 years, sometimes job seekers have to go that little bit further to get themselves noticed.

But few would go quite as far as college graduate Alisha Madkins, who was so fed up with jobhunting she turned herself into a giant advert.

Sporting a sandwich board reading 'hire me!', Miss Madkins spent hours walking around Boston city centre hoping someone would offer her a job.

She said she has spent hours online applying for jobs in public relations, but has had no offers.

----------------------------

But it seems Miss Madkins's ingenuity may have paid off - she said she was offered two jobs on Wednesday alone.

2. Wonderful if she gets a job...
Edited on Thu Jul-07-11 07:39 PM by AsahinaKimi
I might imagine a ton of people following in her lead.. The job market is so impersonal, with applications on line, and never getting any follow ups. You may luck out and get an interview, but chances are once you do, you won't hear back from anyone.

I liked the old days when you could go down to unemployment security, and have a councilor make a call for you, on behalf of the State. Most employers then would say yes to an interview, and it was up to you to make a great impression.

These days there are no councilors. You are on your own. You may get instruction on how to find a job from the State, but that's it.

I am glad to have a job. I would hate to be out there looking now, when unemployed people generally are competing against THOUSANDS.

4. I was invited to an assembly line type interview today and declined
Something really disgusting about being told you'll be interviewed with 20 other people at the same time for a part-time, $8 an hour job.
