The next time someone brings up the idiotic "balance a budget like a family does" argument
Because it really is idiotic... someone should point out that family's try to make more money. It's hard to cut into your credit without increasing your salary as well as cutting expenses.

3. A second job, work more over time and
wife gets a job. If you are going to dig yourself out of a hole, you increase revenue.

4. I don't know of any families that spend 50% on "defense"
But I know many that have used credit to pay for "infrastructure" and "education".

5. remind them that the time Obama was voting against raising the debt ceiling
was during a time of Bush43's "prosperity", while the "adults" (Republican "fiscal conservatives") were in charge, sending things to Bush to sign (which he did), during a time when the tax cuts were in full force.

Why then, in this time of "prosperity" (actually, pretty weak then) and "job growth", did the U.S. still need to raise the debt ceiling, if all their work was going well?

6. We HAVE had to cut back on spending.
No more unmanned drones assaulting the neighbors when their puppy poops on the lawn. It's sad, but true. :*(
