Well, we held our breath and stomped our feet and what did we accomplish?
Wait, he's playing 8 dimensional chess with the Republicans.

Wait, give him time, he's smarter then them.

Wait, he's done so much for us (and given so much away).

Wait you say, he's the only hope in 2012 or else we are ruled by the Republicans.

I've come to a conclusion; Obama doesn't give a shit about the little people, those of us who live paycheck to paycheck. Those of us who juggle the funds to either eat or go to the doctor or take care of our kids. Those of us who haven't had a new car in decades, let alone decent clothes or something to make us smile.

Some here will try their best to undermine my OP, others will do their best to shut it down, still others will attack and ridicule me for my thoughts, but I don't give a shit. My health is poor, my job is a dead end, my only goal is to make it to 65 and retire since my Father and brother didn't, and my sister may not. There's nothing I can do to change the course Obama is taking, nothing. I live in a state where they elected a scumbag Puke slug because he lied about giving them property tax relief, but he sliced and diced the safety net to enrich his buddies, and there's NOTHING I can do about it.

Don't tell me to work hard, I did for Obama. Don't tell me my vote counts, it doesn't because billionaire's votes count more. Don't tell me there's still hope, because our President never had a set of balls to begin with and TOLD US to shove it. My beloved ex will have to suffer more if Obama cuts Medicaid to make the Pukes happy, her medications will be cut, her life will suck much much more. All because Obama won't stand up to the Pukes.

I felt like shit in 2001 when Bush stole the election, or rather, his rich friends did. I felt worse in 2004 when Rove stole the election after I worked so hard for Kerry. Now Pukes control everything, and we have shit to show for all of our gnashing and wailing.

Fuck it. We are invisible. It wasn't worth it.

Either way, there will be no significant wage increases- they will continue to go down. But at least men and women will be paid the same shitty ass wages.

Tell me what has become of my rights
Am I invisible because you ignore me?
Your proclamation promised me free liberty, now
I'm tired of bein' the victim of shame
They're throwing me in a class with a bad name
I can't believe this is the land from which I came
You know I do really hate to say it
The government don't wanna see
But if Roosevelt was livin'
He wouldn't let this be, no, no
Some things in life they just don't wanna see
But if Martin Luther was livin'
He wouldn't let this be, no, no

Skin head, dead head
Everybody gone bad
Situation, speculation
Everybody litigation
Beat me, bash me
You can never trash me
Hit me, kick me
You can never get me

All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us
All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us

8. There is something missing ...
Perhaps we are not privy to the whole picture, while assuming that we are.

Mark Twain said that a true paranoid is a person with all the facts at their disposal. When you consider the Minitruth machinations of corporate media, that becomes a far more plausible statement.

At this stage, one wonders if the politics are a just a form of management and distraction from the actual game plan? There seems to be a growing disconnect and far to much cognitive dissonance. The tangible results and dismantling don't appear to jibe with the political show.

118. You clearly don't understand the game of chess.
Most of those who use the chess analogy regarding Obama (whether for him or against him) don't seem to really understand chess.

In your case, you claim that pawns are sacrificed freely. Completely incorrect.

Pawns are actually very important in chess.

When grouped together, they create strong walls and restrict the enemy's movement. As they push forward, they become a powerful offensive weapon.

They can also create powerful outposts. From which knights and bishops can push even deeper into the enemy's side of the board.

Taken together, the pawns are worth 8 points .. only the queen is worth more (9 points) and in high level chess, she is usually traded off while many pawns still remain on the board.

In many high level chess games, the end comes only when every piece as been removed from the board EXCEPT for the kings and a few pawns. One of those pawns crosses the board, becomes a queen, and wins the game. Although in high level chess, the promotion of the pawn is rarely needed.

The player who is losing can see that they can not stop the pawn from crossing, and so they resign. All because of the pawn.

There are plenty of shoes available for throwing at my house, too. Oh wait, we will need to keep those because I can't afford to replace them because there is no job - can't even get them at Walmart prices. We've been had and might as well admit it and let the crazies take over. The middle class won't wake up until they realize there are no jobs for their kids - and that being shift manager is the best your college educated kid can hope for. As long as there is enough money to shop at Walmart - it's all still OK.

59. What goes up must come down.
We used to be able to define a challenge, come together for the common good, and meet the challenge. I'm curious to see what, if anything, will replace the shuttle fleet. One article here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37509776/ns/technology_and_science-space/t/shuttle-successor-succeeds-first-test-flight/

From the article:

"With the shuttle fleet due for retirement within the next year or so, NASA is counting on private-sector launch providers to provide transport services to the space station, so that the space agency can concentrate on more ambitious trips beyond Earth orbit.

SpaceX and the Falcon 9 have become closely linked with President Barack Obama's revised space policy, which calls for the cancellation of NASA's own Ares 1 rocket development effort. Obama visited the SpaceX launch pad and chatted with Musk just before announcing the policy shift at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in April.

In the wake of that announcement, members of Congress and space luminaries such as Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, criticized Obama's policy and said companies such as SpaceX couldn't be relied upon to deliver on their promises..."

I'm guessing we're headed into also-ran status in the space race. It's what we deserve.

23. "always remember to keep riding the storm out"
In the words of Lasher (from Player Piano) "it doesn't matter if we win or lose, Doctor. The important thing is that we tried. For the record, we tried!"

Ir was worth it to try, if only for the record, because you never know until you try.

You can always find negative things if you want to look for them. Your job is dead end. What does that mean? You'd feel better if you could get some promotions? I understood that you were a union worker making decent money. That seems kinda positive to me. You mention a beloved ex, and at least that tells me that you had some time together with a person you loved and who loved you. That you call her 'beloved' makes it sound to me like you should court her again, that you could make her life better, at least in a financial sense as two can live more cheaply than a pair of ones, and she could make your life better.

You sound like you are giving up, or wallowing in despair. I've quoted it before, Charles Stanley's Life Principle #20 "dissapointments are inevitable, discouragement is a choice."

Or as they say in Galaxy Quest "never give up, never surrender"

Or what they heck, surrender if that is what you want to do, but don't give yourself away http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Av7xWys6gh4

God, I sound like Random Thoughts. Ah well, as Spock said "constant contact does lead to a degree of contamination".

29. i graduated from college the year after ronald reagan was elected
i was stunned, horrified, and depressed. i never gave up the struggle, but the selection of bush the junior really woke me up again. i was always lukewarm about obama, but i was elated when he won. i was in a gay bar in oakland when he won, surrounded by other black people. we were all so happy because a democrat won, and that democrat was a black man...a historic accomplishment i never thought i'd live to see. i went outside to call my mother and my sister, and people were literally dancing in the streets. i remember a car full of young white kids who passed by and waved and yelled "congratulations" and "we did it." it was the most amazing feeling of elation...and community that i'd ever experienced.

we were full of hope for meaningful change, and not just because obama was elected, but because democrats also won the house and the senate. finally...i thought...finally we can start unraveling the mess that reagan started. but alas, here we are two years later with rampant unemployment and tax cuts for the wealthiest 1% while ss and medicare cuts are on the table, supposedly to reduce the deficit. and if anyone thinks otherwise, read that ridiculous exchange between carney and a reporter regarding the meaning of "slash" vs. "cut."

i am 52 now, and have been unemployed for a year and a half. my unemployment is running out soon and there are no job prospects on the horizon. i sit at my computer all day and waiting for jobs to be posted on craigslist so i can be one of the first to respond...i figure it is my only chance. and i have a marketable skills and a college degree...i can only imagine how awful it must be for people with limited skills and education.

this isn't the change i hoped for. and unlike some others, i don't have much faith in the democratic party anymore. there are some stellar individuals in the party, but the leadership is woefully out of touch, and increasing purposely ignoring the will, the needs and the best interests of the american public.

I never gnashed, wailed, kicked, stomped nor held my breath. Petulant children and radio demagogues do that, not adults.
Nor will I allow my own frustrations prevent me from attempting to see the US governed in a just a viable manner, see a more peaceful family of nations, and ensure a cleaner environment for future generations of humans, animals and plants.

However, I certainly won't tell you anything-- as you've already said you'd refuse that, nor will I ridicule your position-- regardless of whether someone "gives a shit" or not. And while you yourself may believe giving up is the your only viable option, I like to think that when presented with only two options, there's always three or more options in the hall that I simply fail to see yet.

Edited on Fri Jul-08-11 03:50 PM by lunatica
I never did. But then I'm a little more aware of the real history of this country than the average American. Hidden under the myth of how great this country is are lots of very dark things. It's just that now many of them aren't being hidden so well anymore.

One good example is we act shocked that our government renders prisoners to other countries for torture believing this is something this country never did before. Yet in Fort Benning in Georgia is the School of the Americas where the US Department of Defense teaches military people from other countries, mostly Latin American countries how to torture effectively. This school, renamed The Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHISC or WHINSEC) by Congress rather than shut it down, has been located in the US since 1984.

No, they don't give a shit about us. They never did. It's just better for us in this country than it is in so many others. Even now we're better off than people in the Middle East, India and Central and South America, among others. Europe is OK, but that's not such a large portion of the world.

do we want more of this -- ?

Because it won't only be about Social Security and Medicare --

this is an administration moving further to the right than anyone could

have imagined --

Most of us don't get up in the morning thinking about how to gain power over other

people -- but many elites do.

Most of us don't think in terms of acquiring things on levels which are suicidal --

but many elites do.

Howard Hughes, for one, wanted to own the USA.

Most of us don't do harm to ourselves and others for profit --

Most of us don't want to see destruction of nature -- we understand and feel the

spiritual renewal that nature brings --

And that's why, imo, when we think about elites and how far they are likely to go,

we don't understand the true dangers of the rising of the right --

The President's 50th birthday is coming up on August 4th.

Help grow this campaign today But he doesn't need a post on his Facebook wall.

The President has been clear that while he focuses on the job he was elected to do, he's relying on us to get this campaign off the ground.

The best gift any of us can give him is real organizing to bring more people into this campaign.

So here's a challenge: Do you think you can bring 50 new people into this campaign for President Obama's 50th birthday on August 4th?

You decide what sort of organizing is right for you:

-- you can collect 50 "I'm in" commitments;

-- you can inspire 50 donors to give;

-- or you can get 50 people to attend a campaign event or events.

You can even do some of each. It's your choice.

If you accept the challenge, click below to get started. Once you start reaching out to people, we'll help track your progress for you, invite you to a conference call to share tips and encouragement, and let you know as you reach milestones on the way to 50.

Sign up and start making calls to supporters in your area, or choose another action to help grow this campaign. You can start right now:

http://my.barackobama.com/50-for-50

It's important to click that link and let us know if you accept the challenge.

That's because when you reach your goal of 50 new people, we'll enter your name into a drawing to join the President, his family, and other supporters at his 50th birthday celebration in Chicago next month.

The deadline to reach your goal of 50 new supporters is July 28th, just a few days before the President's birthday. So let's get moving -- there are 50 people out there who need to hear from you.

Pick which action you'd like to start with, and start reaching out to them now:

100. individually we may have done much for him but collectively we have failed him like gore and kerry
anita hill and clinton and van jones and ACORN and all the others who have come forward and have been beaten by the invisible political 2x4 of talk radio- the right's best weapon because it is invisible to the left.

many of us can and have done many things we could call getting obama's back but for 20 years, since reagan killed the fairness doctrine, there has been NO organized effort by the collective left to mount any challenge to the right wing radio monopoly that punches at all things liberal all day long.and i'm not talking about a radio host being partisan, i'm talking about well coordinated campaigns organized by paid think tank professionals who can feed 1000 of the largest radio stations with lies, distortions, and swiftboating and have those campaigns repeated over and over by trained liars protected from truth by call screeners with sophisticated software who not only make sure they are seldom challenged, but allow paid callers to reinforce the propaganda.

while the left complains about obama's balls and spine, the right gets its balls from limbaugh, and the radio monopoly. and for those who would argue why would they get his back, if he spits on them, i would say again, the collective left that pledged to get his back never did in respect to teh right's most important weapon.

and all because there is NO mainstream liberal organization or dem effort doing anything to monitor the radio as it has been creating this alternate reality and intimidating media and politicians, or doing ANYTHING to get in their face and end their free speech free ride. occasional quotes of limbaugh's racism or lies don't count.

democracy and free speech can't last if the corporations and billionaires can create think tanks that can coordinate and feed a lineup of professional lying blowhards and give them a guaranteed free speech free ride on 1000 radio stations protected by call screeners and paid callers, reaching 50 mil a week.

those limbaugh megastations are the political power centers in this country , from which made-to-order national constituencies (called dittohead teabbaggers) can be created in days and weeks to stop or push anything the think tanks want. they will continue to take the US to the edge of fascism until the left starts picketing them and shaming their local sponsors, including the universities that endorse them by broadcasting sports on those stations.

the GOP HAS to take it to the edge because limbaugh and hannity have been telling tens of millions there is no problem not raising the debt ceiling and the GOP pols know if they don't go along they will be named. and they are also emboldened by the fact that if there is a meltdown the loudest voices in the country will still be their paid blowhards, lying and inciting and blaming and distorting and deflecting and excusing with no worries of being challenged by the left, who know nothing of what is happening outside of TV and print.

obama's opponent in this is team limbaugh and the GOP teabaggers and its media they have educated and enabled, and he can sit in his easy chair and say anything he wants while the left plugs in their iPods and blogs about obama's corporatist balls.

there IS a possibility of default if the ignorant GOP limbaugh dittohead base has it's way, that is the pressure on much of the GOP, and obama has and avoid that possibility and maybe give the idiot fucking republicans something to save face , even if the left is going to whine he has no balls while not getting his back where it counts the most.

103. Maybe the best thing would be for the Republicans to prevail.
Rather than being slowly squeezed to death by our own capitalizing party of do-nothings perhaps the working class would finally come to their senses if the Republicans and their wealthy conspirators could put the final coup de grace to the Middle Class. What can be said about stupid working class folks who have been brain-washed to the extent that they believe the absurdity that unions are their enemy and management their saviors all the while their jobs have been out-sourced, pensions cut and health insurance canceled. Maybe when the only jobs they can get is cutting the wealthy robber barons lawns and scrubbing their toilets while their wifes are taking in laundry and their kids hawking newspapers the will realized they have screwed their own themselves. When public education has been destroyed with the help of Obama and the only schools that exist are for the wealthy maybe, just maybe they will realize they fucked their selves and destroyed their kids future for decades to come.

108. We tried that experiment. Bush and buddies beat up these people.
And still you have a lot of them singing with that choir, albeit with shabby robes. You just can't fix stupid.

129. Can't you understand that I am fully committed to protection of the working class.

When union membership was 36% of the work force, the average worker enjoyed their highest relative share of the wealth that they produced. The highest management made something in the neighborhood of about 30 times what they payed their average workers. And the top income tax brackets were over 80%. Today it is hundreds of times and even as high as 1000 time with rediculously low taxes on the wealthy.

Aa a result of what has transpired in the last 40 years the top 1% have more wealth that the bottom 90% combined. My dream would be to see American workers totally unionized as for example as in Germany where the working class is enjoying a high standard of living, guaranteed pensions, health care and yearly one month vacations and the economy is thriving. If the workers what fair just treatment there is only one way to achieve it; UNIONIZE AND DEMAND YOUR FAIR SHARE. I just wish my fellow American working class folks would wake up and stop believing the bullshit that they are being force feed daily by the propagandists that now control the media.

128. The most encouraging thread on DU and here's why...

It is about reality! As more of us admit the reality of the situation we come closer to a solution. I am heartened by this much more than the ignorance of the facts. I'm with you! When the majority of Democrats join us we may have the power to really make a difference. We need major systemic reforms.
