Renault stops advertising in ALL news international papers
Renault has become the first advertiser to publicly extend its advertising boycott to cover all News International newspapers despite the publisher's decision to close the News of the World, Brand Republic reports. It reports that Renault - which spent £343,829 with the News of the World in the 12 months to the end of April, 2011, according to Nielsen - said in a statement: ...

As a result of the seriousness of the continued allegations of phone hacking by News of the World, Renault is reviewing its media advertising plans.

Pending the formal investigations, we currently have no advertising planned in any News International press titles in the immediate future.

1. Has the second domino fallen? And many more to come?
The downfall and crash of the largest media conglomerate in the world? I'm just dreaming.

4. I' not a gambler, but I would bet on NewsCorp's Anerican assets to close or be hurt.

This is the land of too big to fail. You could eat children for dinner and get away with it if you are a huge corporation. We wouldn't want ore legislators to have to deal with something so overwhelming as investigations, arrests, punitive damages and actually performing the functions that they took an oath to do.

As I see it our government used to have teeth, but since consuming so much corporate meth they have become twisted, chipped and are falling out.

2. I saw this on the blog thread - and wonder if it will snow ball
into a trend with other advertisers - and if eventually across NI to papers and Murdoch entities beyond the UK. Guessing it all depends how much worse the scandal gets.

Already the tampering with evidence (purging millions of emails) during an investigation indicates this is but the tip of the ice berg. How long before the whole entity (beyond News International (UK) gets as toxic as Enron?

3. We had a Renault way back in the 1960s. That car got 40
miles to the gallon without blinking. Gas was around 29 cents a gallon then and didn't cost us squat to fill it up...about twice a month.

6. That could be another reason...
...if the correct guess is Murdoch.

If so, could be the majority owners want him to decrease his stake in the company to make it less likely that he could make a bid to take it over.

7. No, it isn't Murdoch. Its the French government
They own a 15% share. I have no idea if that had any influence on the decision. I just thought it interesting that a government was party to a sanction against Murdoch.

8. Ok, my guess was bad. Thanks for the info.
Any idea who in the French government (or Frnch businesses with connections) might have an interest in making life a little more difficult for Rupert right now?

Or is the number to large to guesstimate?

9. As long as they still have Magic Jack, Telebrands, and the US chamber, they'll be fine.
