Regarding Obama and Generals Who Undermine Civilian Control of the Military
Which General?:

Obama said bluntly that Gen. _____________ scornful remarks about administration officials represent conduct that "undermines the civilian control of the military that is at the core of our democratic system."

He ousted the commander after a face-to-face meeting in the Oval Office and named Petraeus, the Central Command chief, who was McChrystal's direct boss, to step in.

Answer: General Amos?

Au contraire, that would be General McChrystal after he made embarrassing remarks regarding Obama to "Rolling Stone" magazine. Now, will President Obama attempt to have it both ways when another General (Amos) decides to undercut his position on Don't Ask Don't Tell or will the American public have to divine whether Obama is cowering from the Marine Commandant, or does Obama just not believe in overturning Don't Ask Don't Tell in the first place? After sacking McChrystal it just doesn't seem possible for any Commander-in-Chief worth his salt to keep Amos after his stunning lack of military bearing and leadership. The kind of disregard for the chain of command that Amos has exhibited proves homophobic troops are a far bigger threat to our military and national security that any gays or lesbians currently serving could ever dream of being. If Amos can't control himself any better than that, he needs to resign. If he doesn't resign, Obama needs to show some leadership by calling him on the carpet and firing him.

1. Thank you for posting this!
We are drifting toward a situation where the military runs the civilian authority, at least with respect to its own governance. Once we hit that, and have a military that is independent of civilian control, it's a short run up to military control of the civilian authority.

FIRE General Amos! Enough insubordination already.
