1. The Corporate Media Itself is a Threat to Democracy
unless it is regulated.

4. They don't want us to know it is all Kabuki theater in this age of reality tv!!
They'd rather sell plastic razors and tampons while the masses watch some nameless person's trial like they are at the Roman Coliseum deciding their guilt by voting "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" and whether they should hang for it!!

She probably hasn't been able to rest for ages.

3. I agree -- that was my first thought "she looks exhausted" --
and her hair wasn't perfect (which it usually is). She's a hard worker, and I feel good that she's in our corner.

5. NPR has had REPUBLICANS on non-stop talking about how....
...."raising taxes won't create jobs - the American people don't want their taxes raised."

:wtf:

LOWERING taxes and tax cuts haven't created any damn jobs either - in 11 years! We had more prosperity when tax rates for the richest were 80 - 90%!

And EVERY survey and stat shows that Americans WANT THE RICH to pay more taxes and they want corprat tax loopholes closed and subsidies done away with. Does the middle class want THEIR taxes raised? No. But they DO want the rich and corprats to pay their fair share. That's the detail that the Republicans leave out of their propaganda.

Did NPR have any DEMOCRATS on the air to counter the Republican bullshit? Nope. They just let it fly...

The media(loids) are corprat-owned - and corprats don't want their taxes raised - or in the case of many of them, they don't want to have to pay taxes at all. So it makes sense that there would be a BLACKOUT of any other viewpoints other than the one THEY support.

F*ck them.

VOTERS need to MAKE THEIR VOICES heard by contacting the President and their reps NOW! To hell with the media.

We have VOICES. We have VOTES. BOTH need to be brought to bear on Capitol Hill now - before the backroom deals are shoved through.

Call the Legislative Hotline: 1-800-998-0180, which will connect you to your Member of Congress and Senators. We need to oppose a "Chained CPI" for the Social Security formula. Although they won't call it that, this will CUT benefits! Listen to the recorded message then dial in your zipcode.

Also contact the WHITE HOUSE:

6. Honestly, those sound like political weasel words to me.

No cuts to benefits is pretty specific. Does that mean current beneficiaries, or everyone? What about COLA adjustments, or a hundred other things that can undermine the program over the long haul? Social Security opponents have waited this long-- I'm sure they'd be fine with just poisoning the system to the point where it hobbles into obscurity in the space of 10-15 years.

8. I don't know. None of us knows for sure what the hell they're
doing until we see the final bill, then whether or not it's passed.

Like she said yesterday, Medicare/SS shouldn't even be on the table (except, as I keep yammering about, both Howard Dean and Jared Bernstein said there ARE places where changes could be made -- generics drugs was given as an example). If they can streamline anything, okay (and why wasn't it done before?) but as to benefits, or "adjustments" that essentially ARE cuts. N.O.

I'm really surprised at both parties on this. I know the Repubs ultimately want to privatize SS, but they know that's political suicide (that's when Bush's ratings took a dive). ALL the polls say BACK OFF, so what are they thinking? Why are they even fighting over this? They NEED to be fighting about tax breaks for the wealthy/corporations which would generate a LOT of revenue. Not to mention those pesky wars. :eyes:
