NY councilman calls for "perp walk" ban after DSK
NEW YORK, July 8 (Reuters) - A New York City councilman, troubled by images of Dominique Strauss-Kahn and other criminal suspects being paraded by law enforcement officials, is proposing legislation to ban the "perp walk."

Councilman David Greenfield said on Friday the bill would make it illegal for any city employee, including those of the New York Police Department (NYPD), to assist in the public showing of anyone arrested and charged with a crime.

"My law is not directed at the media. It is directed at the police," said Greenfield, who represents part of the borough of Brooklyn. "If we change the law then the NYPD will abide by it."

A spokesman for the NYPD was not immediately available for comment.

1. You mean to pretend like someone is innocent until proven guilty?
What an idea!

2. Yeah, it was okay to parade the poor folks around to America on cops, and it's okay

to make people who have served their sentence serve public humiliation for years afterward, and it's okay to publish news papers with big full-color mugshots of, again, the common folk, but, see, when one of the 'leaders' gets that treatment, suddenly there a call for a ban. :eyes:

Actually, I'm all for such a ban. It's an invasion of privacy. But it needs to extends to all elements, not just celebrities and politicians.

3. Anything to avoid MOB RULE. Seriously long before I ever
knew anyone named DSK--for years, I have wanted to
see changes in our so called justice system.

Since the Perp walk is to help the Prosecutor
make the point --we have one guilty SOB here.
It is for show and get the Media to go after
the person.

I do not like the perp walk for anyone.

Nor do I like cases being tried in public.
To be honest, I prefer the British Practice.
No details are given to Media until the Case
has been tried and the court gives the results.

To me the Justice System is too serious for us
to make soap operas out of people's lives and
we do not even know them. It turns out to be
Mob Rule and a bunch of people all pissed because
the courts' findings do not agree with them.

Falsely accused people cannot get their reputations
back.

4. Just don't ban it until I get to see Dick Cheney on the perp walk at least.
