A tree Reagan planted at the WH 29 years ago
came down with the weekend storm - I hope that was a sign about the death of all of Reagan's policies.
Tweety just mentioned the end of di tree.

2. I saw that. :-( At least it was just 29 years old (althought
it was a "teen" when it was planted there) and not something that's been there a century. Still sad, though.

3. Reagan planted a tree?
He was the one who said that trees create more pollution than automobiles.

17. Also, "If you've seen one tree, you've seen them all."
He was referencing the redwood forests, which he wasn't interested in preserving.

In his opinion, one redwood was equivalent to an entire forest.

8. By their fruits ye shall know them..
Bitter fruits indeed from the Reagan tree, we are now quaffing the foul brew distilled from Reagan's folksy bile.

9. What kind of tree was it? A bradford pear or something?
Edited on Fri Jul-08-11 06:21 PM by Shagbark Hickory
edit: On second thought a bradford pear would never make it to age 29

24. LOL
bradford pear--once a very trendy but ultimately useless hybrid tree.

Developed by man for it's showy blossoms; but the blossoms bare no fruit and stink to high heaven.

Attractive fall foliage on branches which break-off at a moments notice, often on cars parked in shopping malls.

It does sound like a tree that Reagan might chose. }(

25. It's also an invasive species, rapidly becoming a problem in our natural areas.
Once thought to be a sterile hybrid, although definitely not the case any longer, these things are now taking over.

27. Yes, they really should. Of course a tree that self-destructs is a real money make for the nursery
industry as you might imagine, and beside that there's a lot of people that would say get your gummit hands off my garden.

Edited on Fri Jul-08-11 06:33 PM by SpiralHawk
Don't try this at home kids, but before I contact the vast darkside netherworld of Republicon occultism, I ingest a dozen cream-filled chocolate dipped, sprinkle-encrusted doughnuts made with genetically engineered wheat and preservatives. That puts me in the proper mental 'space' for reckoning with the gruesome truth of WHAT LIES BEHIND THE REPUBLICON FACADE OF RESPECTABILITY.

16. A stately American elm that has been in my backyard since decades before we bought the place . . .
. . . . has succumbed to Dutch Elm disease.

It was all over in a scant two weeks.

I would have preferred it to have been blown over, or struck by lightening.
