From an E-mail - Chart comparing US/Canada employment.

More proof we are being sold down the river. Most of us know what needs to be done. Why are not our so-called leaders doing anything to actually reverse the recession and create Living Wage Jobs?
If Canada can do this, why can't we?

1. I'm not sure, but you might ask Republicans that question.
I'd be interested to know what they have to say. Probably has something to do with abortion, gay rights, and no tax increases on the wealthiest among us. Old news, I know, but still a very valid issue and your question is spot on.

2. Or ask the Canadians posting on DU in support of Obama
Edited on Fri Jul-08-11 05:33 PM by Divernan
I welcome input/posts from citizens of all other countries. (I personally love Canada and have visited it from Quebec City to Vancouver Island.) If they can give us information comparing & contrasting what's going on in their countries compared to the US, or telling us what they individually or people in their country think of the US's domestic and foreign policies - that would be of great interest and value.

But when they ridicule and attack progressives for opposing Obama's policies, or support the MIC and multiple US wars while presesnting themselves as if they are fellow Americans and/or Democrats and/or true progessives, that's crossing a bridge too far. Like saying "We need" or "We should not" or "let's" as in let US, etc. They are not part of we the American people. They don't have to give personal identification beyond prefacing their posts with, "I'm a, or speaking as . . (fill in the blank/nationality). There is one poster in particular who constantly disrupts with obscene language and would be struck mute if he couldn't include "fuck" in every subject line. We don't need this on DU.

3. I'm going to go out on a limb and call the latest jobs report an outlier.
That makes this ratio skewed. It would paint a more accurate picture to average the jobs rates among, say, six or twelve months.

A lot of these emails use carefully selected information to underscore an agenda, so take them with a grain of salt.

4. From another thread on the worst economies in the world
185 Canada $ -40,210,000,000

191 United States $ -561,000,000,000

They can't be doing too much right.

5. That number is trade deficit...not a direct measure of "goodness" of economy...
just one of the factors.
As a per-capita deficit, they are about in line with the US.

6. It's hard to compare small countries with countries the size (population) of the US...
I suspect things are difficult to scale with size and would not expect a linear relationship.
