"Fuck her."
Edited on Fri Jul-08-11 04:49 PM by Amerigo Vespucci
DU's 4 paragraph rule:

Raw Story decided to make one-sentence paragraphs on this one. So the context is that the wine was $350 a bottle and Ryan ordered two. "Feinberg" is Rutgers associate business professor Susan Feinberg. The rest explains itself.

The lawmaker responsible for crafting a Republican budget plan that would effectively kill Medicare isn't as frugal when it comes to his own money.

So Feinberg approached Ryan's table and asked him "how he could live with himself."

Ryan, claiming that the other men had ordered the wine, acted surprised to find out the pricetag. "Is that how much it was?" he asked.

When Feinberg asked if Ryan's dinner companions were lobbyists, one of the men stood up and said, "Fuck her."

26. There's a photo of them over at TPM where Josh asks if anyone can identify the two.
The picture is taken from a distance with cell phone but, hopefully, someone will blow it up and figure out who the two are.

Nice Summer Mystery going on to track down the "mysterious economists" who can afford to pay that much for a bottle of wine. :D

14. or he's so rich
he doesn't care.

I've been around enough really wealthy people to know that when they have real money, they honestly don't know and don't care because it DOES NOT MATTER. Thousands of dollars are like pennies to them.

15. Or he wasn't paying for it
When you're not putting the crowbar in your own wallet to pay for your dinner aperitif, the sky's the limit! Besides, the lobbyists can deduct the cost anyway. So it's not Ryan or his hosts who are paying for Paul's drinky-drinky; it's us.

18. they will deliberately buy the expensive stuff
Because they wouldn't want to be judged by their peers as maybe not having as much money as they claim they have. It has a lot to do with appearances. It's pretty obvious the rich spend money to show they're so rich that they don't have to think about cost. Or they will talk about money all the time and tell everyone how expensive their purchases are for the same reason.

31. In my experience, wealthy conservatives tend to be penny pinchers.
Their modus operandi is to make sure that other people pay for everything. They're lousy tippers.

So I assume that his dinner mates paid for the wine and everything else - in return for his votes.

28. We need to stop calling bribery merchants lobbyists. And,
we need to stop calling profiteering industry groups and corporations special interests.

I have no problem with loggying, that is, presenting an argument for or against some issue. When they hand over money, it becomes bribery, corruption. This country stinks with corruption.

Profit making corporations are not persons and they should not be called special interests. They are profit making corporations. Special interests are old people, handicapped people, disenfranchised voters, college students, subgroups of persons. If half of our Supreme Court Justices were not corrupt, corporations would not be persons.

30. A true Rethuglican
Mr. Super Catholic with the perfect blonde wife (who by the way, cleaned up big time when her hubbie voted to keep certain energy areas safe from evil taxes ... conflict of interest, anyone?) representing a a district in Wisconsin filled with struggling blue-collar workers.

He sits there with a straight face and works to make the poor even poorer while happily guzzling $350 a bottle wine.

Government serves its purpose for Rethuglicans. It provides them with AWESOME health care benefits, access to all sorts of lobbyists and the good life (his pal John BOehner only stays at 5-star resorts), and tax dollars that can be used to fund private enterprise.
