So where would you put your money if the debt ceiling talks are going to fail? |
|
You can't buy real estate because that has tanked.

I'd stay out of equities for awhile, at least.

5. Not do anything different. |

I have a 401K, I have some savings. It will either survive or it won't. I happen to not have any bonds, so if there is negative fallout, it will reach me indirectly, as far as I know.
At any rate, it's only fiat currency. If I'd ever had *good* ideas about what to do with money in a shitty economy, I'd have done that years ago.

Believe me, this is all just theater to dismantle social security. The GOP is playing its role merely to provide political cover to obama while he does the dirty work, which he will then call "a necessary compromise." I mean, how many iterations of this does one require to recognize it? The same script was used for health care "reform," and extending the bush tax cuts.

12. I buy real things these days |

Beans, rice, guns, ammo, fuel, I'm not stockpiling for retirement anymore, just thinking about survival at this point. There really is no hope in it getting fixed.

Bonds will tank in the initial panic. When a deal is inevitably reached they will recover. Same as equities a couple years ago. Why people insist on pulling money out in panics I have no idea, but I am willing to help them if they insist.

17. In the 60-70s we asked the same question. Many of us thought that |
|
putting our money in land was the answer. It may still be the answer. I also think that house is not a bad deal if you think of it as a place to live or rent. It has to have another purpose that investment to make it work.
