This is Loughner, the obsessed loner...
volunteering for a book store? I'm sure that some phrenologist can explain why he looks like a crazy lone wolf.

who read dangerous books like:

2. He never read those books if he only got violence out of them.
He was looking to some other thing.

3. The Mountain is a long-time Classic rock station here in Tucson
Food For Thought is a radio show about food, and was probably a Mountain sponsored event

8. Interesting. I found this pic on Yahoo, caption said volunteering
for a book store.

In addition to putting a face on the suspect, I thought this picture was also interesting in that it addresses the growing obsessed lone wolf killer rhetoric.

5. He wanted the US to go back to the gold standard
Does that remind you of any teabagger types by any chance.

Next we are going to have people posting here trying to convince us it was a Republican Congresswoman who was shot.

Jeebuz. Do some people think we are this stupid?

9. He also appears to be an anarchist, saying, "I will not trust in God."
But I am sure that there will be much more that comes out.

10. He's referring to our money...
Our money says "In God We Trust." That is most likely what his comments are referring to, not his religious beliefs.

15. When he says that "I will not trust in God", I can only assume
that he is saying "I will not trust in God." But hey, maybe I'm reading too much into it.

17. It's about being on money as a substitute for gold; remember: The Wizard of Oz is about silver
There's an awful lot of Ayn Rand in his reading list, too, so it's going to be interesting to see how all this sorts out.

Lost in popular culture is that The "Oz" in The Wizard of Oz is the abbreviation for "ounce", and it's, among other things, about the silver standard.

I'm sure religious nuts will seize on this out-of-context quote to "prove" he's an atheist, but let's see what develops.

And he smoked a lot of pot and read some left-wing literature.

HE'S CRAZY. Not Sarah Palin/Zell Miller kinda crazy - for REAL crazy.

14. I will not trust in god
does not make one an anarchist. An atheist maybe, but not an anarchist. He reads Marx apparently, but no Proudhon or Bakunin or other anarchist writers are on his list. I know a lot of atheists, but only a few of them are anarchists as well.

Peace

21. any particular brand of anarchism in mind?
Edited on Sat Jan-08-11 10:04 PM by anakie
Having a gun and shooting up people is not anarchism. Of course there are violent anarchists, but your analogy is the same as equating Phelps and his loathsome mob with all Christians.

on edit
I agree with the above posters re in god we trust being printed on your money

23. There is also a general def. for an "anarchist":
"a person who rebels against any authority, established order, or ruling power." Seems to fit in this case.

24. the same definition could also be applied to 'terrorist'
of which this bloke is. It is unfortunate that the general definition you quote has become the accepted norm. Anarchism, as a political theory has many schools and branches of thought - from violent revolution to radical pacifism (my particular end). Not that Wikipedia is the accepted font of all knowledge, but for a brief overview of political anarchism it is not a bad place to start.

12. Definitely far from the mainstream of any major political party.
Some will focus on the bits that peg him as right, some will focus on the bits that peg him as left.

The truth is probably somewhere 90 degrees off any recognized axis.

he contributed thousands to Giffords. That's not true. I found his address and checked campaign contributions and he isn't listed as contributing money to anyone.
