God is love: Catholic School Rejects Annual Gift From Gay-Friendly Politician
Edited on Sat Jul-09-11 12:59 AM by Bluebear
New York state Assemblyman Joe Lentol voted in favor of same-sex marriage. Which means a Brooklyn Catholic school has to send back his $50 donation:

Officials at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Williamsburg sent back a $50 gift from Assemblyman Joe Lentol (D-Brooklyn) - following Brooklyn Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio's edict to refuse any honors from pols who backed same-sex marriage. DiMarzio also told pastors and principals not to invite any state lawmakers to speak - whether or not they voted for the bill - because the diocese objects to the bill's dead-of-night approval. Lentol said he's been giving small donations around graduation time at the church's Queen of the Rosary Academy for the last 20 years - and was "disappointed" to have it sent back last week. "This was a civil issue involving equality for all people," Lentol said.

A diocese spokesman endorsed sending the money back, saying it was "preposterous" for his school to give pro-gay people a platform.

2. Joe Lentol acted from his heart. and that is good.
The Catholic community has a right to refuse to accept this gift from a generous soul. I certainly the Assemblyman gives it a public school in need. It is obvious the Catholic schools do not need public support for their programs. So, therefore, since they do not accept the fact that an assemblyman has to act in the best interest of all constituents, they can have their principles and the assemblyman can have his personal integrity. As a MN legislator said not too long ago: if human sexuality is made by god and humans are creatures of god, then how many GAYS does god have to create before they are accepted as human beings with all the rights and privileges that humanity has??

4. This is the letter I sent to him the other day
Dear Bishop,

I have read some of your statements regarding marriage. In my mind you are free to have all the beliefs that you want that make your life better. You are free to make Catholics live under any laws you desire. However, when you step foot into the secular world you need to live under secular law.

I have never understood why someone can demand that others live under someone else's beliefs. To do so in the secular world this demands that facts back up their beliefs.

You state that same-sex marriage will destroy marriage as you know it. Do you have facts to back up this belief of ours??

You state that one of the main reasons for marriage is the purpose of creating and raising of children. Is it your belief that people that do not plan to have children, those that can not have children, those that are too old to have children, not be allowed to marry??

Your religion demands that all Catholics go forth and multiply. Yet the leaders of your church do not do that. That seems strange to me.

If one is going to make statements that go worldwide then they also need to have facts to back up their statements. I will wait for you to e-mail these facts to me.

You have a nice day,
