The public enthusiasm for socialist politics peaked in the early 1930's, after the last big heist by the rentier class. There was organizing going on in every corner of the land for socialist reform. The rich got scared, let the New Deal slide, and began the social conditioning that culminated with the McCarthy era, "Better dead than Red".
Depressions are when wealth comes back to it's rightful owners. JP Morgan

13. I have the book, but the Google Book excerpt seems to be adequate for the purpose. |
|
There's also plenty of stuff on the web, if you know some pertinent keywords. Try "Mohawk Valley Formula" as in this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohawk_Valley_formula

8. uh, you do realize that BOTH the depressions over the last century have been |
|
caused by crony corporatism, capitalism's evil twin brother.
And further, Capitalism, in and of itself, doesn't really care who eats and who doesn't. That is, plenty of people have starved under capitalism.
And I say this as a staunch, old-fashioned capitalist.

As if not most of Europe, who in one way or another have had, or have a "love affair" with elements of sosialism, is starving all day?.. At least the Powers that be, and the government are afraid of the working man in Europe.. In US you are all a laughting stock for the rich and powerfull..
One thing is eating 3 meals a day, but US are not eating, you are collectively over-eating far worse than every another nation on the face of the world.. And even then, millions and millions of you, are starwing becouse they are not able to get what they need.. So I guess, a little "evil socialism" would have been great for US when it came to solidarity for the poor and striken down..

And to never complain about not having napkins.
My grandmother had more hope for this country clear back in 1932 than all of the members of the Tea Party coalition have today!! Can you imagine what the Great Depression was like when umemployment was over 40%?? I really like Steinbeck, but the era of Eugene Debs died without a wimper.
