Tony Blair: New Labour died when I handed over to Gordon Brown
Source: The Guardian Uk

Tony Blair has delivered his most damning verdict on Gordon Brown's government to date, claiming New Labour died when he left office in 2007 and that the party "lost its driving rhythm".

The former prime minister said the 13-year Labour government should be remembered in two phases – his and Brown's – and there was "no continuity" between the two.

In a speech in London to the New Labour thinktank Progress, Blair also advocated a "pick and mix" of policy that did not adhere to old narratives of left and right. He urged the party to let go of some of its old ideologies in order to arrive at the "right" policy decisions.

Unbelievable blame shifting by the one asshole who is solely responsible for putting
Britain in a world of shit. With his lying and support for the illegal invasion of Iraq he
singlehandedly divided the labour party and killed the New Labour movement.

Now he wants to blame the person who tried to clean up his mess. He is without a
doubt a cowardly blame shifting schiester who needs to be in jail.

13. And he's pooping all over the place
Still it can be good to look at it from the other way around, how Blair' s shift from "Old Labour" to "New Labour" injured the Labour party and the UK and left Labour voters in the UK no longer represented by their own party since it is so similar to what is happening here now with the Third Way "New Dems."

3. As I have put it...
Britain had three years of Labour government, having defeated the Tories in 2007. No, those aren't typos for 'thirteen years' and '1997'. Brown was on the right wing of the Labour Party, but Tony was a Tory.

'the one asshole who is solely responsible for putting
Britain in a world of shit.'

Not quite. Thatcher, Murdoch (to an even greater extent than we realized), and the editors of the Daily Mail bear quite a lot of blame too! But Blair was, as someone I know put it, 'Thatcher's illegitimate son'.

20. Of course he's lying
That all Tony Blair ever does. New Labour is still alive and well. A lot of people in the Labour party are still stuck in a 90's timewarp and are determined to keep the Blairite flame burning.

21. One of the saddest things about UK politics...
...is that policial parties over here are top down and reflect the needs & wishes of the party leader, not the activists on the ground. Tony Blair did more then anyone else to make this so, and based his government on the needs of people like Rupert Murdoch over and above the needs of the British people.

Though I'd say that 'top down' party rule really started with Thatcher.

30. I'd say that the control freakery reached much worse levels under Blair
Indeed a lot of bad things in UK politics, from the rise of SPAD's and spin doctors to the over centralization of parties started off under Thatcher but was taken onto a whole new level by Tony Blair.
