God-Dammit. Any political system that allows the party that's out of power to have so much clout...
Is a system where things are going to be fucked up royally for most of us.

Especially one where wealth is treated like unimpeachable royalty OVER democracy.

I don't care who your favorite politicians are… As long as what is happening now continues to happen, in the annals of undemocratic behavior, it won't matter if anyone's favorite pol makes it up on his or her high horse.

Power comes with numbers and money, applied with high pressure and high heat.

So as long as we behave like a freaking herd of cats, you shouldn't be surprised at any negative outcome and not too giddy for long at any positive one.

This is not a game, it's a perpetual struggle.

Forgive my frustration… I am tired.

1. Their constituents (owners) posses all the money and resources. They don't need elected office.

The "elections matter" meme is becoming more hollow and transparent. It's an antiquated concept now used to pacify and distract.

2. allows the party that's out of power to have so much clout
Correction, only if the party out of power is the GOP.

The Democrats never had any clout when out of power.

3. Do Democrats remember Republicans just walking out of hearings and not putting bills on the table?
5 years ago:
Democrats: Can we put this bill on the table please?
Republicans: No.

Today:
Republicans: We're going to put this bill in to let the Koch brothers buy another chunk of the government out.
Democrats: Why?
Republicans: You dare question us! You're all a bunch of socialists who hate job creators and Baby Jesus!
Democrats: OK! OK! Whatever you want! Just please stop with the mean names!

5. The problem is that the "party out of power" controls the party "in power"
DLC/Third Way/"centrists"/Blue Dogs/whatever they want to be called this week, they ARE Republicans.

People complain a lot about the "duopoly" of the two party system, but it's much worse.... there's not even a functional second party anymore.

6. Sadly NOT the case here in Wisconsin. They only have clout if the party in power LET'S them.

8. Republicans are ALWAYS in charge!!!
If Money couldn't buy them the election out right, it at least buys them enough power to stop Democrats!!! Our system isn't one person, one vote, it is one dollar one vote! Which gives which means we are out voted every time.

10. Controlling the House is not "out of power"
Edited on Sat Jul-09-11 08:51 PM by quaker bill
Out of power is tiny minorities in both chambers. This is where they need to be, not where they are.
