God is love: Brooklyn Bishop says ban all pro-gay lawmakers From Catholic places
Brooklyn Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio is telling the Catholic schools and churches in his diocese to ban all visits from pro-gay state legislators:

DiMarzio, the leader of the Brooklyn diocese, has urged the Catholic institutions to decline donations and speaking engagements from Gov. Andrew Cuomo and any lawmaker who voted "yes" on the bill legalizing same-sex marriages. Calling New York's passage of gay marriage "another 'nail in the coffin' of marriage," DiMarzio issued a statement two days after the New York gay marriage bill was approved by the Legislature demanding that "all pastors and principals to not invite any state legislator to speak or be present at any parish or school celebration." The Catholic bishop also said the church should now speak more "forcefully and clearly" against gay marriage.

I'd like to see the Brooklyn diocese's list of top annual donors, just to cross-reference them with New York City's known mob-connected murderers and organized crime figures. Wanna bet there's a lot of names of both lists?

1. Why? Do they interfere with the molesting of children?

2. Hmmm. I wouldn't want to wish pain upon a child, but I would not
be surprised at all if this guy has molested a child or ten in HIS past. His vehemence seems excessively...I dunno, personal? Like he thinks beating up on gays will absolve him of his sins, or something?

Pity the Vatican Press didn't have an opposite number, a "Vatican Enquirer" if you will. Intrepid reporters could stalk these bishops when they go on holiday and take photos of them canoodling with Raul the Pool Boy in Costa Rica, where they think they're anonymous. Then they could splash them all over the front page with snarky headlines--Naughty Bishop Up To His Neck--that sort of thing.

It would serve them right.

3. Why ban just the lawmakers?
Because banning all pro-gay people would hit Catholic schools and churches too hard in the collection plate, that's why.

4. someone please explain to me why these churches are getting tax exempt status!!
i mean, i thought the deal was they they had to stay the hell out of government and keep their shit to themselves. i was raised catholic. i went to catholic school. i went to a catholic church. i was baptized. Was not by my consent or choice. (Except the last year I was at Notre Dame because I didn't want to go back to my local Public school).

I am now a recovering catholic. I made my choice once I was able to make the choice for myself. So why the hell do these jerks and jerks like them in other branches of religions try to force their religions on the rest of us. If I wanted to believe your crap and be a catholic or presbyterian or methodist or baptist or whatever else there is, i would go join a church. But I don't want to be because I don't believe your shit.

I agree with the poster who said that they don't expel all pro gay parishoners because they want that money. TRUE! They want that money. Of all the things to bitch and moan about.... Why don't they focus on what's really important instead of trying to push your crap on everyone else. Feed hungry people. Without strings attached. Help the poor. Why would we want to do that.

5. No one listens to him
Bishop Mugavero, the former leader of that same archdiocese and a true Christian Socialist, is spinning in his grave.

6. I find these types of statements as expressed by this Bishop fascinating.
In the Bishop's mind what constitues being "pro-gay"? Not that I begin to care what this authoritarian zealot thinks how he defines "pro gay" might be illuminating. Here is hoping he would consider me "pro gay".

9. But, but not ALL of them are like that!
Some are True Scotsmen, they are just too busy to renounce the bad ones, or to even so much as disagree with them out loud, but they are True Scottsmen.

10. Why would any adult be a Catholic?
I'm sick and tired of supposedly "liberal" Catholics bitching about how the Pope said this crazy thing or some Bishop fucked another kid. Just quit the church. It has no redeeming qualities. And, if you put money in the collection plate, you're actively supporting a child rape ring with money.

Let's leave these bronze age superstitions in the past.
