If Congress fails to raise the debt limit during wartime, Obama should declare martial law. |
|
The Republicans are holding a gun to America's head. Extreme threats demand extreme responses.
Maybe the threat of martial law would make the teabaggers re-think their anti-American treachery.
If Congress can't do a simple thing like raising the debt limit, putting America in danger of financial collapse while our military is engaged in 3 wars, what better grounds could there be for dissolving Congress and ruling by decree?
I'm not really sure how I feel about this. I'm just throwing it out there for debate.

6. It's more the threat of martial law than the actuality. |

Why not make a proclamation that if Congress fails to raise the limit by a certain date, martial law will be declared. Then let Congress make the decision whether to raise the limit or let martial law be declared.

I don't even know why I bother to play along...but don't you think the obvious response by Congress would be a unanimous bill of impeachment? Or is this not relevant in your scenario because the president is already a dictator? Inquiring minds want to know.

What a dumb idea. Frankly, if Obama, or any other president, declares martial law, I will resist, and so will many others. It will get brutal, ugly and violent.
Geez, amazing how many people go off the deep end so readily.

Fascism is anti-anarchist, anti-communist, anti-conservative, anti-democratic, anti-individualist, anti-liberal, anti-parliamentary, anti-bourgeois, and anti-proletarian.<11> It entails a distinctive type of anti-capitalism and is typically, with a few exceptions, anti-clerical.
It must be wearing a disguise.

11. A disguise? Much of that perfectly describes America as it now exists. |
|
America is certainly anti-anarchist, anti-communist, and anti-democratic. Both parties 'support(s) the existence of private property, the existence of a market economy, and the use of the profit motive.'

10. Serious question, who has Congress declared war on? |
|
Aren't we in several "non-wars"/conflicts/military actions? Or do you intend to accept the dangerous, insane, and illogical position that we can be at war with a tactic?
There is no war or if you admit to one then you endorse, create, and set unanimous precedent that will create a completely permanent, if constantly shifting, war and the authoritarian conditions that come along with it.
Even with the very best intentions the President would be declaring himself Dictator based off a bunch of crazy neocon lies and crazy bullshit logic and that isn't acceptable for any mere man or woman to do if we are going to have self determination.

Using threat of violence to resolve domestic economic issues? Good call. You "threaten" me with suspension of my family's civil liberties, and you'd best back it up with your own personal steel and guts. I'll certainly not be interested in supporting enactment of martial law over unresolved financial issues, regardless of which party's stuffed suit declares it. When you give up on the political and legislative process and rely on the threat of physical violence to get your way, well... you get what you deserve. Anyhow, martial law would probably signal the start of the second American Civil War IMHO. That doesn't appeal to me at all.

but unfortunately that makes as much sense as martial law. What an idiotic idea.
For 8 years my orbital muscles got their weekly workout when people posted that Bush was CERTAIN to impose martial law. Now you WANT Obama to do it.
