Family Research Council “Prayer Team” Has 2-14 W-L Record in 2011; Time for God to Fire this Squad
Just look at the God Squad's pathetic record to date. No media outlet has yet questioned FRC Head Coach and Fuhrer Tony Perkins about his outfit’s 2-14 prayer record. We hope that, with a little prodding, that might change.

And here I thought Rutgers had a rough football season.

3. they won in MD and RI
the civil unions RI passed are about worthless given the religious exemption and MD passed nothing. That is a win for them by any measure.

4. What is the religious exemption in RI
and how is it different from the one recently passed in NY?

Also, I wouldn't give up on RI, in the cases where the New England states had civil unions, they soon went for full marriage equality. Yes, I wish that all Americans would embrace marriage equality, but I still see CU's and DP's as a possible necessary step for many places where homophobia reigns.

10. anyone with a religious reason can refuse to acknowledge the union
so if your company is headed by an anti gay person, no insurance benes for you. This is way beyond NY.

12. Interesting
Anyone? If a motel refused to rent a room to a civil-union couple, they could get away with it?

I'm a bit surprised I hadn't heard of these restrictions, but then, I get mostly NY news, and perhaps the deficiencies in the RI law were ignored over the coverage of the NY law.

11. Here
http://joemygod.blogspot.com/2011/06/rhode-island-activists-demand-governor.html

"This flawed civil union bill undermines a crucial principle that Rhode Island has always stood for -- respecting the separation of church and state,” said Marc Solomon, National Campaign Director for Freedom to Marry. “Not only does the bill propose a separate-and-unequal status instead of ending the denial of marriage itself, it grants an unprecedented license to discriminate against same-sex couples and their families. Governor Chafee should veto this defective bill and work with the legislature to enact a marriage bill that ends discrimination while preserving religious and personal freedom on equal terms for all.”

The letter, which was signed by groups including Freedom to Marry and GLAD, reads: This amendment could allow individuals, who are legally required to recognize everyone else’s legal commitments, to opt out of doing so only for gay and lesbian people. In practical terms, this law could allow religiously affiliated hospitals to deny a civil union spouse’s right to be by his spouse’s side and make medical decisions for him, and could allow religiously affiliated agencies to deny an employee’s right to leave in order to care for his civil union spouse under Rhode Island Family and Medical Leave.

13. Wow, that's almost like no bill at all
If someone 'approves' of you, they already have the option of treating you like a full human being, even in the states where constitutions have been stained with homophobia. This doesn't seem to be much different from the status quo, where commitment ceremonies are accepted by enlightened people, and are scoffed at by bigots.

Thanks for making your points, I was quite unaware.
