Red meat from a vegan — Kucinich
Rep. Dennis Kucinich is a vegan, but showed late Saturday that he knows how to dish out red meat to the liberal faithful.

Fresh from a trip to Damascus, Syria — he gets on well with President Assad — Kucinich used the daylong NW Roots conference to deliver a message of fiery old-time populism, mixed with New Age, with a call to bring the troops home — everywhere.

...
“We have to put forward the image that we want of a country that no longer exploits the peoples of the world,” cried Kucinich, adding a moment later: “The greatest exploitation is war.”

The congressman mentioned “violence against animals,” and proceeded to quote Tennyson and argue: “This is our moment when we can consciously craft a newer world.”

How? Kucinich wants “a second New Deal in America,” noting that “There’s over $3 trillion in infrastructure work that has to be done.” If the private sector doesn’t put people to work, government has a “moral obligation” to provide jobs for the jobless.

1. Kucinich is an excellent Congressman. Truly.
I hope he can hold onto his seat. We need him there. I believe Ohio is changing its districting. He may be at risk.

4. From what I hear, he is NOT at risk. I hear from Republicans who
Edited on Sun Jul-10-11 01:14 PM by The Big Vetolski
are close to a couple of important Republican State Senators that they don't think it's possible to get rid of Kucinich no matter what they do, so they won't even try. The most they can do is combine Kucinich's 10th district with Marcia Fudge's 11th. This is because the Ohio Constitution requires congressional districts to conform with county and city lines when possible.

If Kucinich ran against Marcia Fudge in a primary, he'd beat her like a drum. She's no Stephanie Tubbs-Jones.

No, what I'm hearing is they may eliminate Betty Sutton's central Ohio district and one of the ones in Appalachia on the West Virginia border. This is just rumor, but it's Republican rumor, and it makes sense.

6. That's very good. I admire Kucinich's work in Congress, and
hope he can continue to serve in that valuable capacity, where his voice stands out from the crowd. He seems to have found a great platform in that position.

2. He's right but he's in a shrinking group of folks who still
have a sense of community and give a damn about more than whether they have the latest model jag, technology, or will get to screw the sexiest stripper in vegas.

THIS:

"If the private sector doesn’t put people to work, government has a 'moral obligation' to provide jobs for the jobless."

Exactly. Damn. Right.

3. K&R for Kucinich.
Now THATS what a "Democrat" sounds like.
I wish we had 100 more like him.
He is one of the very few reasons I stick with the Democratic Party.

”Unlike the other candidates, I am not funded by those corporate interests.
I owe them no loyalty, and they have no influence over me or my policies.”
---Dennis Kucinich

7. If you want another 100 of them, you can start right in your
own Congressional district. There are only 435 of them. Each one is an opportunity to elect a new representative every two years. We have an election coming up in 2012. Who's the Kucinich in your district? We can accomplish what you want. All we have to do is to do it.

9. It is a little difficult...
...with the White House, the DSCC, and the DNC campaigning FOR and raising funds FOR the Anti-LABOR/Anti-HealthCare Blue Dog "Centrists" in the Democratic Primaries.
They even sent the Old Dog down to fund raise and campaign for Blanche Lincoln (who crowed about blocking HCR) in the Democratic Primary in Arkansas (2010) when there was a perfectly good, popular, Pro-LABOR Pro-HealthCare "Democrat" (Lt. Gov. Bill Halter) in the primary race.

Insult to injury, after the Democratic Primary the White House ridiculed LABOR for "flushing $10 Million down the toilet" supporting a Pro-Labor Democrat.

Stiff like that from the entrenched interests make it difficult for "change".

If that was an isolated incident of Bad Judgment, I would be willing to overlook it,
but its not.
THAT is SOP for the DLC.

10. At the congressional district level, it is up to the people in that
district. It's that simple. It's a small enough population segment that it's possible for a campaign to actually speak to every voter in the district. It's a small enough area that a candidate can address virtually every group that meets for anything in the district. It is possible to win a congressional seat through sheer work. It has happened many, many times. It can happen in any district. It can happen in your district.

Money only goes so far in congressional races. Personal contact trumps money at that level. Kucinich is a terrific example of that very thing. But, if you don't think it's possible, it isn't. Good luck with that.

11. Yes. It is also possible for Rahm's henchmen...
..to corner local financial backers in a district,
warn them off of supporting any non-approved grass roots candidate,
and DEMAND an equal donation to their Chamber of Commerce approved DLC Centrist candidate,
"Or the door to the White House will be forever closed to you."

...not only possible, but has happened.

8. K&R The 2nd New Deal should be the platform of 2012,
and We The People should demand it. This country--including every rich person--would only benefit by a healthy and working society. It is the only sane thing to do, but we are going to have to sustain a big noise until we get this. We would have to unify around this platform, perhaps go on strike and stand our ground till it is put into law.

Doubt all you want but there is no other way now. People have always had to demand human rights and now is no different. FDR had to be forced in his 2nd term to put the New Deal into effect, and now either President Obama has to be convinced, or we have to find someone who will do this for us.
