The "bottom of the ocean" part is usually implied.

Maybe what I quoted is the Canadian version. I quoted Major John "Spanky" Argue around 9minutes 30 seconds in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQyXQOe7nBA

Canada and Britain, where the poor are far better off than the poor in the United States. Just as one example, the porr in Canada and Britain, the poor have access to whatever health care they need, whereas the poor in the United States are likely not to even be able to see a physician, no matter for what reason.
The poor in Canada (as do ALL Canadians) receive Family Allowance ($100 per month per child under age 18) and Old Age Security ($525 per month from age 65) and if their income is below the average, they get Guaranteed Income Supplement after age 65, all of which which moderate "poverty" in Canada.
Basically, the difference between rich and poor in Canada is about 3% of the difference between rich and poor in the United States.

7. Yeah - here we get to starve in comfort. |

That is such a crock - you must have never lived anywhere outside the US to say such bullshit.

13. I'm poor. I'd rather be poor here than in most of those countries |
|
and although I haven't lived anywhere but here, I've traveled pretty broadly.

16. And if you were as poor in many, most, other countries as you are in this, |
|
you would have guaranteed health care and a roof over your head.
Time was, we'd 'tut tut' about homelessness in India - then it became commonplace in the US. We have a minimum of 2 million homeless in this country. We have supposedly 14 million unemployed - but there are millions more who have fallen off the radar.
There are a LOT of better places to be poor than the US.

11. South Korea actually has better income equality than Canada, France and the UK. |
|
And South Korea's per capita income is about the same as the EU.
Of course, South Korea and all the other are light years ahead of the US in terms of income equality.
