Aaargh. Stop the silly fantasizing about Bernie for President.
He's not running for President. He has NO INTEREST in doing so. He's 70 years old. He's from Vermont.

It. Will. Never. Happen.

Never.

Let's live in the real world.

1. I think he's much more useful exactly where he is.
The Senate doesn't have very many good leaders, and he needs to stay there and try to get the rest of those useless a-holes to do something.

5. I think a LOT of people, given the chance to see/hear him, would
think he'd be a good President, but I don't think he wants it.

Plus, primary-ing(?) never leads to the desired result.

7. amen. It's silly
The presidential selection is mostly always from the 50-60 range...

There are the "wacky" ones like Nader & Paul who keep at it for publicity, but aside from Reagan, most are not over 60 at their 1st inauguration, unless they have been a serving vice presidents.

10. My view on this is simple ...
Let them have their masturbatory fantasy of say Sanders/Feingold ...

Like most masturbatory fantasies, it will never happen ... but they get some joy thinking about it ... a few stroke stroke strokes ... then a brief political elation ... and then off for a nap.

No harm done.

20. I'd prefer a more attainable fantasy
like getting a dozen guys like him in the Senate.

But even that would be a major uphill battle.

21. Was it masturbatory fantasy to expect a public option or a discontinuation

of tax cuts for the grossly wealthy?

23. Yes ... and after the 2010 election YES ... and here is why ...
1) Let's start with the public option.

Let's pretend that you are the President. You want the PO, but the bluedogs in the Senate won't play ball. Most on the left at this point want "leadership" and "bully pulpit" .... ok, fine. Let's imagine YOU as President have done so. You have ALL of the bluedogs ready to vote YES. You only need one vote ... Joe Leiberman.

Recall that Joe ca,campaigned AGAINST YOU for President, and, that Joe is nicknamed "the Senator from Aetna", AND that Joe does not plan to run for the Senate again.

Please explain how YOU, as President, get Joe to vote YES. At this point, I should mention that I ask the question all the time, and the BEST answer I have received is that Obama should use the DOJ to blackmail Joe.

Talk about masturbatory fantasies.

2) This one was not a fantasy, until the Dem congress decided to NOT send a middle class tax cut extension to Obama in the fall of 2010. If they had done so, they would have held the House and not lost seats in the Senate. AFTER failing to do so, yes, this became a fantasy.

If Obama let ALL of the Bush tax cuts expire, he would have raised taxes on 95% of the American people, those making under 250k. The media would have crucified him for raising middle class taxes ("read my lips"), and DU would have as well, using it to claim he hated the middle class because he took money they needed in the middle of a fragile recovery.

26. Dude. I'm really tired of the Joe Lieberman excuse, or that Obama can't
Edited on Sun Jul-10-11 09:10 PM by Dept of Beer
Veto a bill.

Not only are the arguments thin, but they aren't funny either.

It's like listening to a kid say he can't stand up to the school bully who is one foot shorter than he is.

Obama could have played Chicago hardball. He chose not to.

Let's see if he does it this time around.

In addition, both of your points could be used for any legislation to come from tax cuts to cuts in SS and medicare to whatever. Excuses.

If the administration does not stand firm, as it HAS TO, it will become a tragic footnote: real political capital squandered.

18. What? You like Barney Rubble better?
Fred was sensible. He had an older family sized sedan model with a tigerskin roof, slightly worn.

While Barney was a rebel, with a dugout sports car, as he was going through a mid-life crisis.

LoL

15. Ok, how about Al Franken. I hear he made a good speech at
NetRoots 2011 about saving the middle class.

He's a Senator, has name recognition, is more of an east coaster than a Midwesterner.

What's not to like?

this is an overwhelmingly conservative country; we should be thankful if we can get a president who is center-right rather than far right.
