A horrendous story.

Angering incompetence.

The amazing human capacity for survival.

The amazing human capacity for cruelty and perversion.

She seems such a sweet young woman, but I can't imagine, even a little, the demons that must be chasing around her.

I'm left not knowing what to think . . . . .

1. Think about what?
Just acknowledge and celebrate her survival. She deserves it.

2. I just watched the show, it was amazing.
Jaycee is a really strong woman.

I don't think she will ever truly recover but she is doing well considering what happened.

5. No, a girl who was kidnaped and held in a tent for years in CA.
Raped and had two children by her kidnaper. Kidnaper's wife also charged with heavy felonies.

7. The capacity for survival
She refused to give up hope. I wish her the very best in life; she's already suffered enough for ten lifetimes.

8. She received a settlement from the State of CA for
20 million dollars - she deserves every penny. That's an extremely hard way to make money. It's not on yet here in CA but I will watch and tape it. I can't imagine how not one neighbor saw her in 18 yrs.

9. A black couple in the neighborhood reported seeing children
at the residence. It was known that he shouldn't be around children. Police went out, talked with Garrido briefly then left. Didn't search the backyard or the house. I suppose the word of a white child pervert trumps the word of someone black. This occurred 18-24 months before she was finally rescued. The police dept was later questioned about it-they were sorry. This was in the Sac Bee and tv after she was found.

no amber alert for those two black kids in Wisconsin over the weekend.
Both were found dead. Ah well!!!

10. IMHO she is an amazing young woman who has come through this thing
with grace and an inner strength most of us can only hope for.

The well-deserved $20 million settlement from the State of CA and the therapists it has no doubt paid for can't have hurt her ability to cope. I hope she continues to recover with class and the privacy she and her family deserve.

12. I agree with you .....
...... but I'm struck at how almost emotionless she was. She said all the right things, but I guess I expected to see more emotion. A few tears.

Please don't misinterpret that. I was NOT watching to see her cry. I am not wishing that she cries. I am saying that I think I was watching a young woman who has had so much stolen from her that we can never truly understand. I wish her nothing but true happiness and peace.

13. She has had nearly two years of therapy to reach this point.
And I think she is probably just so happy to be free that she has no need to cry now. The time for crying is over, and it's time to live and be happy. She strikes me as very mature.

Remember, that which does not kill us makes us stronger.

15. She is probably an expert at containing her emotion for the sake of survival.
It is not uncommon of particularly child victims of rape to be able to have nerves of steel, even when not around the perpetrators.

16. I saw snippets of it on Good Morning America.
She is an amazing woman because she came out of that horror without serious psychological problems.
