Bachmann Tops Romney in Iowa GOP poll
http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/

Tea-party favorite Rep. Michele Bachmann (R., Minn.) bested former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, in a poll of likely Iowa caucusgoers released Sunday.

The poll showed 25% of likely caucusgoers support Ms. Bachmann while 21% favor Mr. Romney. The survey of 500 likely caucusgoers has an error margin of 4.4 percentage points, and was conducted by the Republican polling firm Voter/Consumer Research between June 26 and June 30 — just as Ms. Bachmann formally announced her entry into the presidential race in Waterloo, Iowa, where she was born. A Des Moines Register Iowa poll conducted a few days earlier showed and released last month showed the two statistically tied.

Mr. Romney, who leads in national polls, has been concentrating on New Hampshire rather than Iowa, where social conservatives dominate the caucuses. The former governor will not compete in the Hawkeye State’s much-watched Ames Straw Poll next month. Ms. Bachmann, meanwhile, has campaigned heavily there since announcing her candidacy.

The poll showed Ms. Bachmann’s support spikes among the “most attentive voters.” The congresswoman garnered 32% support in that category, while Mr. Romney came in a distant second at 18%. It remains to be seen how Mr. Romney, who is mostly ignoring his primary opponents, will win over the most ardent conservatives.

2. LOLOL
Bachmann is Palin without the gravitas. :) This is excellent news for Democrats - the longer Bachmann stays in the race and gets media attention, the better.

3. Bachman will win Iowa.
The only question is how big her win will be. She's also on the uptick in New Hampshire. South Carolina will be a slam dunk for her. Nevada will be interesting, seeing the Jesus Junkies in Las Vegas taking on the Mormons. She could win all 4...

5. I Suspect That We've Already Found The Republican Front-Runner
I suspect that we've already found the Republican front-runner for the 2012 presidential race. What with the strong Religious Right and TEA Publican biases against Mormonism on the one hand and rational thought on the other, I suspect that Mitt-sie will fall further and further behind in Republican primary after Republican primary after Republican primary. The thinking corporate Republicans might like Mitt, but I think they're likely to be as irrelevant in the Republican Presidential primary race as Rockefeller Republicans had become back in 1984. I strongly suspect that the GOP will nominate Michelle Bachmann and that we progressives in particular and the Democratic Party in general ought to start working to counter a Bachmann bid for the White House NOW.

7. When I was younger, I felt that states like Iowa, Ohio, Indiana, and
Wisconsin were among our best states politically. However, the events of the past decade have shown me how wrong I was.

9. However...
You have to keep in mind that these people are being misled by a powerful and pervasive advertising campaign. When told repeatedly that the reason you are having economic woes is because of democratic policies, even level headed and otherwise intelligent people start to become influenced to some extent.

10. Has Iowa met Marcus yet? Somehow, I don't think Michele's
hubby is going to be a hit with Iowa conservatives. If Michele was smart - she'd send him (along with Calista Gingrich - another problematic spouse) on a shopping trip to Indonesia or Antartica. Make it a long trip - like a couple of years. Marcus can help Calista pick out jewelry. I hear she likes it. A lot.
