7. No, but he's done something quite masterful
Everyone knows everyone knows the entitlements have to be changed, but anyone who suggests a special change gets killed politically.

He's managed to get credit for having the guts to cut entitlements without proposing a specific change he wants to make.

That's pretty impressive.

He never intends to propose any.

But he's getting credit from the press people for having proposed some.

If he had proposed a plan don't you think the Republicans would have leaked it by now?

30. From the beginning Obama let us know he wanted to make WAR
on Boomers, not Republicans.

Remember this from January of 2007?

"SHUSHING THE BABY BOOMERS"

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/21/weekinreview/21broder.html

"The time has come, Senator Barack Obama says, for the baby boomers to get over themselves."

“I sometimes felt as if I were watching the psychodrama of the baby boom generation — a tale rooted in old grudges and revenge plots hatched on a handful of college campuses long ago — played out on the national stage.”

"The historian and Kennedy aide Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr. said Mr. Obama had to offer more than a repudiation of the previous generation’s actions. “It depends on what the policies are,” Mr. Schlesinger said. “The New Frontier was the development of the insights of the New Deal.”

He just doesn't give a shit about the middle class.

I am sick and tired of his trashing his fellow Democrats and the Progressive Wing of the party. He is a Republican who is captured by Wall St. and Big Business. His performance today is absolute proof. He's lifted the veil and revealed what he's about. He doesn't even sound like the same person who ran for the President. He lectures and scolds. And he seems to be a know it all as he trashes both parties as not having HIS infinite wisdom about what America needs going forward. Power has gone to his head.

67. I am so tired of this shite!
we've had over ten years of the wealthiest in this country paying less money in years, while the disparity gap widens even further. I remember when Little Boot's sickeningly chuckled not once but many about hitting the trifecta. See now he could raid the SS box. Now Obama talks about how everyone needs to sacrifice-nothing about raising the cap on the wealthy, but "trimming benefits" to the most vulnerable.

The majority of the people in this country have been sacrificed to the global corporate market, and we are the ones who are paying. If he makes government more "lean and mean" like those repuke governors there will be even less jobs, especially decent jobs.

Capitol Hill is either delusional or they just don't care about americans and the infrastructure. I see most of them having the greed, power sickness, big time sociopaths.

He mentioned "Progressives" having to take hits at least three times, but never mentioned the Tea Party... Interesting that. Also kind of made fun of Sam Stein when he questioned him about exactly what cuts SS/Medicaid would have to take.

That Presser was a real eye-opener about where our President's vision of America is taking him. I'm glad I watched the whole thing. It was rough going though...

62. Question re: sacrifices by the minorities, poor, the elderly.....
Edited on Mon Jul-11-11 10:56 AM by woo me with science
This recession has been hard on everybody, but obviously it's harder on folks who've got less, and, the thing that I am obsessed with...is all those families out there who are doing the right thing every single day...who are struggling to keep up and just feel they are falling behind no matter how hard they work (tells personal anecdote) and there are just hundreds of thousands of folks out there who really have seen just as tough an economy as we have seen in our lifetime.

We took very serious steps to ...stabilize the economy...

This unemployment rate has been really stubborn. There are a couple ways we can solve that

1. Make steps that people have money in their pockets
2. Make steps so businesses can invest
3. Work to make sure that training programs are out there for folks who have to shift from one job to another
4. Put forward proposals to make sure that unnecessary regulations are examined

So we've been looking aat the whole menu of steps that can be taken. We are now in a situation that, because the economy has moved slower than we wanted...taking an approach that costs trillions of dollars is not an option.

What we can do is solve this underlying debt and deficit program for a long time, so that ... we have solved this problem...and everybody feels the ground is stable under our feet...{then we can think about whether there are] strategies that will result in targeted job growth, ....like infrastructure projects.

I can imagine a very aggressive program like that. But we can't even have that conversation if people don't even feel like we have our fiscal house in order.

So let's get this problem off the table (the deficit), and then with some firm footing, we will then be in a position to make investments....

and "everybody feels the ground is stable under our feet."

Everybody? Really? Not the people whose livelihoods will be slashed.

64. So what a few old people and disabled people
Edited on Mon Jul-11-11 11:12 AM by Liberalynn
can't afford food, medicine, housing, clothes etc RIGHT NOW. Its more important that we appease the wealthy so they can create mythical jobs sometime in the MYTHOLOGICAL future, and that we protect a future generation that may not even exist because we are messing up the planet with radiation leaks, wars etc. If the current old and the disabled DIE because they can't afford to do anything else in the meantime waiting for the wonderous Obama to pull a rabbit out of his arse so what? :sarcasm:

That plan you can keep Mr. President. I am keeping my SOUL thank you very much.
