Boehner intransigent.
Presently holding his response conference to the President.

He asked, " Do you think you can cut the deficit without cutting "entitlements"? The answer is "no". Do you think we can grow the economy by raising taxes? The answwer is "no"."

Looks like they are frozen in space.

3. Well, think about it...
you are going to be meeting with this person to try to negotiate a deal in a few minutes. Do you piss him off or praise him or neither?

6. Many on DU want Obama to stab Boehner in the eye with a spork.
And they hate him because he won't.

14. Just don't use a clean spork, he's not worth that. Dig one out of the trash at KFC, then stab away

8. How many meetings is this now and whats been the result of them?
So far the mister nice guy approach hasn't worked for shit. Perhaps calling him a partisan hack who would rather let the country wallow in misery then see another Democratic President succeed at even a modest level is called for. Put the man on the spot and call a spade a spade. Tell it like it is and let the people decide rather than play games.

18. Trust me, that would backfire big time. No getting personal, most people do not like that
We might like it at DU, but the real world is different than DU.

Obama is making his points about how the Republicans aren't serious pretty well.

17. I am of the opinion that the "negotiations" be televised.
Let us see the details and arguments of what they are proposing rather than sit back and wait for them to decide our fate.

10. Let me explain:
The President set the bar of reasonable expectation.

Boehner immediately went out and proved that he couldn't clear it.

Done.

What did we learn from this exercise that we didn't already know?

20. What did WE learn? Nothing. The vast majority of the voting public isn't paying attention

Which is why the GOP extremism needs to be trotted out for lengthy and persistent public display.

2. Definitely another reality. GOP won't budge though, and any hope the Dems have of finding any
balance in this deal is all but impossible, unfortunately.

- polling show most people want taxes raised on the rich
- polling shows most people hate the RYAN plan, which apparently Boehner is now pushing again with his "fundamental" reform bullshit.

16. Retreat to a position that gives them what they want for virtually nothing in return
claim the mantle of "adulthood", roll the fuck over, declare victory, celebrate the demise of the TeaPubliKlans, lose elections, blame liberals, and tack to the corporate right.

Though that is after a good session of begging and throwing away our basic principles in a game of chicken to supposedly pick up some small number of voters who don't care about political detail as long as they can drive a new Benz and avoid poor folks that by definition aren't paying attention and will still vote for whoever they think it would be the coolest to go on vacation with.

24. One of these talk show hosts needs to get a
mathematician up there to show with equations why trickle down economics is unworkable and then another equation that shows what needs to be done to correct the mess supply side economics and previous administrations and Congresses have made with using a system where the math doesn't work.

It's as simple as that. THE MATH DOESN'T WORK! The math is pretty simple too. I believe anyone that made it to the fifth grade would see that it doesn't work.

The nation needs to see conservative, Milton Friedman economic theories debunked in black and white. It will show the Republican Party without anything to stand on and stripped of their credibility.
