It is not a tax hike if ........ |
|
1. Loopholes are closed that have been allowing unfair advantages to the wealthy who are making out like bandits these days and can afford tax accountants and attorneys.
2. A previous tax cut is rescended, returning to the level of taxation prior to the tax cut....just like buying a pair of shoes on sale does not mean that there was a price increase when the shoes revert to the original price.
3. Subsidies to large corporations making record profits are ended.
Am I wrong in my thinking?

1. Who says it can't be a tax? |

It's not an action to be feared if it's purposeful.

4. The second one is a rate increase. |
|
The example of a shoe sale does in fact result in a price increase when the sale is over even though the initial reduction was understood to be temporary from the beginning. The shoes were $30, then they were reduced to $20 for two weeks. At the end of the two weeks, the price went from $20 to $30. That's an increase. If the Bush tax cuts for the rich are ever allowed to expire, the marginal rate will increase.

8. Only in this respect: there is nothing wrong with a tax hike. |
|
And tax hikes are essential.

9. Oh, I agree with that. |
|
I think there needs to be a tax hike under the current circumstances. In fact, there should have been a tax hike at the beginning of the Bush Iraq fiasco.
