Where I live at, a poor rural community in Florida, hunting is very popular. Deer and wild hog are plentiful. Many people supplement or totally replace store bought meat with game that they have shot. Prepared properly it tastes better than store bought chemical laden meat and is FAR cheaper.

I enjoyed the sport of target shooting with handguns for years. It was challenging and rewarding but inexpensive compared to any other sports. I met a number of interesting people at the range an became friends with many of them. The ability of the firearm to kill is irrelevant when punching holes in paper. Accuracy of the shooter and the weapon is the name of the game.

Firearms can be collected. If you know what you are doing, collecting firearms is a better investment than the stock market.

And of course, firearms can be used for self defense. My daughter stopped an intruder breaking into our home by pointing a large caliber revolver at him. He ran. No shots were fired.

when they decided to turn their focus from hunting to politics i "resigned". my father in law was a trapper,hunter,and fisherman who dropped his membership when the nra endorsed bringing in ak`s. i gave up my shotgun and 2 22lr rat guns when i moved back to town. i`d have a gun today if i had somewhere to shot. i have a dog that goes for the throat for home security.

see not all people who like guns are rabid rightwingers.
