Healthy eating does NOT include 100% abstinence from junk food |
|
The Washington Post's "44" blog has this post headlined " ." Someone from the paper spotted the First Lady "order(ing) a ShackBurger, fries, chocolate shake and a Diet Coke." Yep, the same Michelle Obama who's advocated for healthier eating and spearheaded the "Let's Move!" campaign.
Sheesh. I appreciate Mrs. Obama for planting a vegetable garden at the White House and for actually doing something to combat childhood obesity even if it means having to hear stupid accusations of hypocrisy and jealousy and mockery from the brainless right wing and media. In February, Rush Limbaugh crossed a line by commenting that the First Lady should be akin to a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model or a girlfriend of baseball player Alex Rodriguez. Thing is, Michelle Obama has NEVER advocated a total anti-meat vegan/plant diet unlike some more radical people in America.
As Ana Kasparian said on TYT in response to Limbaugh's comment (2:29 in video): "It is possible to live a healthy life and once in a while have a little fun with food. OK? You want a rib? Eat a fucking rib...Michelle Obama...is not going to everyone's house and saying: 'NO! You're NOT allowed to eat that greasy food.'" It's so stupid how people enjoy mocking Michelle Obama simply for daring to eat fast food occasionally. Can't they tell the difference between moderation and regularity?

3. Meanwhile, Michelle still looks great. |

See how that works? Exercise and watch your diet 90% of the time, and maybe you can indulge every now and then.

Obviously she has a sensible life style and has for years.
A wise woman once said to the effect that there's no key to success, but the quickest way to failure is try to please everyone, especially so for a first family.

8. Sure it does - not because of the food, because of the attitude and politics |
|
Of course, it depends on your definitions of both "health" and "junk food"
My definition of health includes mental, emotional, and spiritual components as well as physical. If my eating disgusts me, or is addictive or impulsive in nature, it is not "healthy" to me, no matter what the contents of the food I eat.
Conversely, there is no way, especially including "right attitudes" to make the various chemicals that junk food is lace with into healthy food. There is a large gap between "causes acute illness with a high probability" and "healthy", which nearly all manufactured food falls into, but our commercial forces call anything this side of "causes acute illnesses" "healthy".
But for me, the largest problem is that the BELIEF that "junk food, and the economics thereof, aren't bad for me" is more harmful, in the big picture, than anything I'm actually liable to eat.

9. I agree wholeheartedly. |
|
I am trying to eat low calorie meals most every day, but that does not mean that I don't still want some of my favorite meals on occasions. Like bbq ribs, like a thick hamburger with onions, lettuce, and tomato, like fried oysters, like a grilled steak. I like to think that my healthy eating allows me some excess or junk food once every couple of weeks. Am I wrong?

If you're happy with the results, fine. If not, don't blame other people for what you put in your mouth.
