And By The Way...If The Reasoning Behind Some Of These Cuts, Raises In Eligibility Age...
and the like...

are really the reasons (because we're all gonna live longer), I have to ask...

On WHAT planet... under WHAT logic???

We have our own returing troops going homeless NOW: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/07/10/60minutes/main20072997.shtml?tag=contentMain;cbsCarousel

1. There is no reason behind any of these proposals. Reason ceased in DC when Lincoln was shot.

3. Not only that but our life expectancy is going DOWN
http://www.cnn.com/2011/HEALTH/06/15/life.expectancy.united.states/index.html

>>>>snip
Between 2000 and 2007, the researchers found, more than 80% of U.S. counties fell below the life-expectancy bar set by that group of leading nations, even though the U.S. spends more on health care per capita than any other country in the world.

Given the increasing life expectancy in countries like Canada and Australia, the widespread pattern of decline in the U.S. is "a huge surprise," says Christopher Murray, M.D., one of the study's coauthors and the director of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington, in Seattle.

"We all know from previous work that there are great disparities in the U.S. across counties, but I sort of expected that when we compared progress in counties to what's possible that we would be keeping up," Murray says. "And we're not."

4. The reasoning is that more people will die before becoming eligible,.
thus saving money.

It's not nice to say that, but there it is.

8. Perhaps not nice to say, but it came up here yesterday, and my
spouse and a male friend have been checking the obits for well over a year and noticing the 50 somethings listed.

My mother's spouse is 75, and they were here yesterday for fun, food and drink. The President's ears should still be on fire, but I digress. He is a retired union plumber, who specialized in large jobs. My spouse is a journeyman lineman who realized that he couldn't finish his chosen field of work until he was 65. Mom's husband has a huge scar from surgery on a shoulder that my spouse needs to have someday, although I think that the surgery has improved so that it won't leave the huge scar.

Hubby's knees are also shot from climbing poles...some people can't work until 65 or 67, and some just drop dead from lack of care.

10. Life expectancy gains are mostly among the professional classes.
Edited on Mon Jul-11-11 08:42 PM by QC
That's the cruel irony of using the fact that people on average are living longer to justify raising the retirement age.

Basically, it means that since bankers and lawyers are living longer, manual laborers must work until they drop into their graves with their brooms and hammers in hand.

5. I saw that episode & homeless vets are a disgrace for this nation,
but particularly for the war mongering Republicans who gave us these two wars. They think that all homeless are lazy scum, but what about the veterans.

Obama, being a supporter of veterans, should propose a program specifically to address this problem, shaming the Republicans and watching them squirm and try and weasel out of supporting it.

7. Oh they never said we're ALL gonna live longer....
White women have an expectancy of over 80 years. Black men, just over 70. So. Some are living longer than others, and all of that.

12. So living longer means we'll have to work longer and retire shorter!

Is that what the rich are doing?
