Where by “he” I mean Obama, and by “you” I mean Democrats, and everything they stand for:

Terrible policy (Medicare Saves Money -http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/13/opinion/13krugman.html?partner=rssnyt&emc=rss), disastrous politics. Perfect!

1. Krugman is humorless and politically tone-deaf. I have met him socially, so I do know this.
Edited on Mon Jul-11-11 08:18 PM by ClarkUSA
Tomorrow, I'm going to email him a transcript of tonight's Lawrence O'Donnell Show, wherein the former Chief of Staff to Tip O'Neill explains why "What you are seeing is the most masterful rope a dope ever performed by a President against an opposition party in Congress."

6. Yeah, we heard all of the rope-a-dope bullshit last year
when the far right delivers another historical ass-kicking next year, you'll again blame it on real Dems for not playing along with all of this horse shit.

While the president is engaging in "masterful rope-a-dope", martial law is being implemented in MI, the right to vote is being crushed in WI, MI, PA, ME, FL, birth control is being defunded in most states, labor unions are being outlawed in most states, public schools are being dismantled almost everywhere, and the president is preparing to join the chorus of voices calling for Medicare and SS to be phased out.

While the 12-dimensional chess may be going well, down here in the first 3 dimensions his leadership is fail

9. I'm skeptical
This whole Obama is a master at 3D chess thing seems to be over rated by those who wish to believe but have not real evidence for which to base that opinion.

23. He may be that, but his most masterful 3D chess move was
pretending to be a progressive democrat and getting into the White House
on that false pretense. It is a simple tic-tac-toe from there.

I don't care if he is humorless. I get my humor from Comedy Central.
What if the fucking TRUTH is politically "tone deaf"?
Krugman aint no yes-man. He aint no stooge.

I'm listening to every word.

20. More on Speaker Thomas P. O'Neill
O'Neill at odds with President Ronald ReaganO'Neill was a leading opponent of the Reagan administration's domestic and defense policies. Following the 1980 election, with the U.S. Senate in Republican hands, O'Neill became the leader of the congressional opposition. O'Neill called Reagan the most ignorant man who had ever occupied the White House.<8> O'Neill also said that Reagan was "Herbert Hoover with a smile" and "a cheerleader for selfishness." He also said that Reagan's policies meant that his presidency was "one big Christmas party for the rich." Privately, O'Neill and Reagan were always on cordial terms, or as Reagan himself put it in his memoirs, they were friends "after 6PM." O'Neill in that same memoir when questioned by Reagan regarding a personal attack against the President that made the paper, explained that "before 6PM it's all politics."<9> Reagan once compared O'Neill to the then-popular arcade game Pac-Man in a speech, saying that he was "a round thing that gobbles up money". He also once joked he had received a valentine card from O'Neill: "I knew it was from Tip, because the heart was bleeding."

28. The "Rope-a-Dope" only works if it is followed by a Knock Out Punch.
So far, thats the only part Obama hasn't delivered yet.

I watched O'Donnel's lengthy presentation Step by Step with intense fascination,
but I can reduce it to just one step:
Obama is winning politically by adopting the Republican's positions,
leaving them no place to go.

This is wonderful for "Centrist" politics,
but very, VERY bad for the Working Class & The Poor.

...but if it gets Obama a political "WIN",
what do the lives of a few millions of Working Class & Poor people matter?

Who will STAND and FIGHT for THIS American Majority?
You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their excuses.

30. Wow. Way to prove a point by using ad hominem.
When Ali used the "Rope-a-Dope," it earned him something in the end: a tired, worn-out George Foreman. I'd be just tickled pink to have you explain to me exactly what benefit we're all going to get out of this. You know, like the amazing Rope-a-Dope that Obama performed that got us a public option and stopped the Bush-era tax cuts and..oh, wait..

33. Rope-a-dope is the perfect analogy.
There's nothing at stake for the fighters other than winning re-election. Let your constituents take as many body blows as is strategically useful.

We'll always vote for the lesser of two evils so we don't matter.

2. O.K., the obvious question
If Medicare is so much better than private insurance, why didn’t the Affordable Care Act simply extend Medicare to cover everyone? The answer, of course, was interest-group politics: realistically, given the insurance industry’s power, Medicare for all wasn’t going to pass, so advocates of universal coverage, myself included, were willing to settle for half a loaf. But the fact that it seemed politically necessary to accept a second-best solution for younger Americans is no reason to start dismantling the superior system we already have for those 65 and over.

Now, none of what I have said should be taken as a reason to be complacent about rising health care costs. Both Medicare and private insurance will be unsustainable unless there are major cost-control efforts — the kinds of efforts that are actually in the Affordable Care Act, and which Republicans demagogued with cries of “death panels.”

The point, however, is that privatizing health insurance for seniors, which is what Mr. Lieberman is in effect proposing — and which is the essence of the G.O.P. plan — hurts rather than helps the cause of cost control. If we really want to hold down costs, we should be seeking to offer Medicare-type programs to as many Americans as possible.

3. Well said, because for-profit medicine is INEFFICIENT. Efficient
medicine costs less, and therefore generates less profit. Which is why the Canadian system, the Cuban system, and the British system(just to name three of dozens) are so much more efficient than our current capitalistic medical delivery system.
