16. He seems to become "more above us" with every speech or Presser, lately. |
|
I was disappointed in that he seemed so proud to say today...that "rich people like me don't need these tax breaks." (paraphrase...but if you ever read the transcript of todays Presser...you will see it's there and worse.
He just seems to be enjoying his power with lecturing and scolding. He really wasn't like that on the Campaign Trail...no matter how many DU'ers say that he was just like he is today...I watched most all of his speeches and read all the people on DU who were so envolved with his candidacy who thought he was a "man of the people ...the world, the hopeless, downtrodden and needy."
He just lectures and trashes people who aren't as educated in Harvard, Columbia as he was and managed to make it to Senator and now President along with Millions from Book Deals. He's so proud he can speak to the Wealthy and urge them to give up some money for taxes to help the rest of us.
Watching the speech or reading the transcript of today's Presser would be worth the time for anyone here who wants to see who we will be voting for in 2012.

"Let me start off by saying that in 2000 I said, 'Vote for me. I'm an agent of change.' In 2004, I said, 'I'm not interested in change --I want to continue as president.' Every candidate has got to say 'change.' That's what the American people expect." --George W. Bush, Washington, D.C., March 5, 2008

Shared sacrifice directed to the political leaders on the other side of the asile who want to continue to put off real fixes to the problems facing our country.
But of course, you guys knew that.....

24. Obama might've meant to refer to leaders only, but that pause between made ears hear it for all. |
|
In the delivery of the speech Obama came to the point of the "pull off the bandaid" metaphor, and delivered it smoothly... and the context made it obvious that he was indeed directing it to political leaders... but then he paused for a couple of beats, looked into the cameras, and said "eat your peas".
That pause had the effect of decoupling that metaphor from the context of what he was saying previously. That pause and that shift of gaze was enough for eyes and ears to interpret that metaphor as being directed to a broader audience... not only to the leaders but to "the led".
You and Obama's press people and talking heads far and wide can try to argue otherwise all you/they would like... but it's a lost cause. It was heard that way, and it was heard that way because of how it was delivered by a president who's praised globally as a gifted speaker.
It might be time to apologize... but if Obama apologizes, how will he follow that with exhortations that "the led" take "their lumps" and "share in the sacrifice" of the deal he's looking to make with Republicans?
He can't... because, like it or not, intentional or not... Obama was telling the public to "eat their peas".
But of course, you knew that...

That "political sacrifice" that the Dems would be making by voting for cuts to our safety net, that's not an abstract sacrifice: it will have a real and painful effect on the lives of a lot of Americans, many of whom are already barely scraping by. You wanna play games with contracts for overpriced screwdrivers for the DoD, that's one thing. Cutting Grandma's monthly check for a political battle that doesn't have jack shit to do with our deficit, that's just lower than whale shit.

and those that "don't want to do anything about entitlements" are representing my interests and don't need any fucking peas. I have eaten not only my vegetables but had to chow down about ten portions from Pee Wee Herman's portly nemesis, the stupid spawn of Thurston and Lovie, and fucking Ritchie Rich's plate via force feeding through a tube and by extension, so have those few that actually try for the destitute, poor, struggling, and getting by classes.
He can shove the peas, broccoli, and a whole damn gross of bandaids where the sun don't shine.

14. I am not a professional politician so there is no way I |
|
could ever understand how government works, so I need to step back and let the professionals take care of the job.
All I need to do is worry about my job (if I am lucky enough to have one) How I am going to feed my family with less pay How I am going to pay for that operation without medical insurance Where I am going to live after my house goes into foreclosure
So you people just worry about the little things and let the big boys take care of the rest

21. The poll that this response was in reference to |
|
demonstrates that the American public has a pretty limited grasp of the implications of the debt ceiling.
When some cynical asshole at DU says Americans are disengaged because they're sitting on their ass watching American Idol, it's cool.
But when Obama says it's because they're too busy trying to manage their lives, he's an elitist? Really?

27. And how would he know what the public thinks?? |
|
The public is not allowed at the table. The ceos and everyone else is, but not you and me. I thought the government was for the people........
I read all the speech and the q and a
I read what boner had to say on the ingraham show
Huge disconnect between these two men Huge disconnect between these two men and the people
professional politicians........ they give degrees in that now??
We are not children, we are not babies. If he does not think the American people understand the problems then educate them, don't talk down to them
That seems to be the biggest problem....these people think of themselves as professional politicians and that they are better than the people ........ that they know best ...... what is in our best interest. I say bullshit.
You say the people are disconnected. You are probably right. Have you asked why?? I have have and the answer I get is because the people do not feel the politicians listen to them. I have called and called my politicians and as of yet not been able to talk to any one of them. If I was a lobbyist I bet I could get in and talk to them. So if there is a disconnect then it is the politicians fault and not the people.........

Once in a great grand while I'd like to have steak like the 1%'ers at the big table.
Why is it we're always the ones with an ever-smaller portion of peas while the 1%'ers keep getting bigger steaks?
Here we go again. Peas-porridge hot, Peas-porridge cold. Peas-porridge in a pot Nine days old.

It's an utterly despicable way to talk to adult human beings. That's all. If he was talking to legislators, he needed to turn to the camera and tell us that, in plain language.
