The Peoples Budget -Congressional Progressive Caucus
Budget of the Congressional Progressive Caucus
Fiscal Year 2012

Our Budget Creates a Fairer Tax System
• Ends the recently passed upper-income tax cuts and lets Bush-era tax cuts expire at the end of 2012
• Extends tax credits for the middle class, families, and students
• Creates new tax brackets that range from 45% starting at $1 million to 49% for $1 billion or more
• Implements a progressive estate tax
• Eliminates corporate welfare for oil, gas, and coal companies; closes loopholes for multinational corporations
• Enacts a financial crisis responsibility fee and a financial speculation tax on derivatives and foreign exchange

Our Budget Protects Health
• Enacts a health care public option and negotiates prescription payments with pharmaceutical companies
• Prevents any cuts to Medicare physician payments for a decade

Our Budget Safeguards Social Security for the Next 75 Years
• Eliminates the individual Social Security payroll cap to make sure upper income earners pay their fair share
• Increases benefits based on higher contributions on the employee side

1. I'm bummed
because I'm seriously wondering if Obama would veto this budget if it got through Congress.

This is what I always post when someone on the right say's "the left doesn't have a plan"...

Here's some of the left's plans that the right keeps saying we don't have...

On the Wisconsin level...

http://www.cows.org/pdf/bp-AltBudget.pdf

Here's the JS "coverage" (Saturday opinion piece, thanks "librul" JS)....

http://www.jsonline.com/news/opinion/122754538.html

And more coverage from Express Milwaukee

http://www.expressmilwaukee.com/article-14937-the-wisconsin-values.htmls

____________________________________________________________________________________

On the national level, here's the Progressive Caucus Budget (the Peoples Budget)...

http://cpc.grijalva.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=70

Here's what The Econonmist has to say about it...

http://www4.economist.com/blogs/democracyinamerica/2011

..snip..

"...Republicans are refusing to raise the national debt ceiling even though their own budget raises the national debt by $6 trillion over the next decade...The Progressive Caucus's plan would (by its own claims) balance the budget by 2021 by cutting defence spending and raising taxes, mainly on rich people"

The Republicans offer the same cure for every ailment: slash social services. You call that a plan?

Thanks for posting this.
