Loughner to classmate describing her abortion, “terrorist for killing the baby.”
From the NYT:

"Don Coorough, 58, who sat two desks in front of Mr. Loughner in a poetry class last semester, described him as a “troubled young man” and “emotionally underdeveloped.” After another student read a poem about getting an abortion, Mr. Loughner compared the young woman to a “terrorist for killing the baby.”

But he read the "Communist Manifesto", so he's clearly a leftist. Let's ignore everything else and hold onto that.

2. so what if he read it....?
his actions clearly support the idea that he is right wing. The right wing can try to spin this all they want in fact I invite them to.

4. I meant it to be sarcastic.
"Atlas Shrugged" was actually one of my most politically influential books. Nothing did more to convince me that I was, in fact, a liberal.

6. And I've lost count of the number of news stories who quote her verbatim...
...without bothering to clarify what lead her to label him as "liberal".

The NYT article I linked is included.

10. Or, she doesn't know how to categorize her high school friends from 2007...
I know that I am constantly shocked when reconnect with close high school friends on Facebook only to discover that they are rabid right-wingers today. I would have guessed all my associates in high school shared my worldview... Turns out I was wrong.

9. And yet the New York Times seems to be pushing the "he's a liberal" angle
“As I knew him he was left wing, quite liberal. & oddly obsessed with the 2012 prophecy,” the former classmate, Caitie Parker, wrote in a series of Twitter feeds Saturday. “I haven’t seen him since ’07 though. He became very reclusive.”

“He was a political radical & met Giffords once before in ’07, asked her a question & he told me she was ‘stupid & unintelligent,’ ” she wrote.

I'm not sure how that relates to his comments on abortion.

11. Despite the only stated political position that we have of his...he was pro-life.
But hey, he read the Communist Manifesto and some conservative girl he hasn't talked to in 3 years says he was "liberal"...so "liberal" he is according to the MSM.

12. We're going to hear much more from Caitie in the next few days...
I'll bet we discover that her ability to correctly identify the politics of her high-school acquaintances should be taken with a grain of salt.

13. And he read Mein Kampf and Giffords and the aide that died
were Jewish.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In response to the tragic shooting of Representative Gabrielle Giffords and others in Tucson today, Kathy Manning, the chair of the board of The Jewish Federations of North America, released the following statement on behalf of the Federation movement:

"We are shocked and saddened by the savage attack on Representative Gabrielle Giffords today. Rep. Giffords is an active member of the Tucson Jewish community, and a leader in promoting Jewish communal concerns on Capitol Hill. We mourn the loss of life, and pray for a speedy recovery for all of the injured. Our hearts and prayers are extended to Rep. Giffords' family and the entire community during this difficult time."

15. He reminds me a lot of the Columbine shooters
Shy, alienated, and increasingly obsessed with violent fantasies.

I'm starting to think that the real question is not whether he can be labeled as a "liberal" or a "conservative" -- but just what fantasies finally pushed him over the edge. And it seems pretty clear that it was right-wing conspiracy theories, with a touch of New Age paranoia, that did the job.

19. "Pro-lifers" have a long history of killing in the name of "life".
So this is certainly not out of character for them.
