I don't need unfettered access to my Member of Congress
I live in the 8th Congressional District of California, Nancy's district. While she was Speaker of the House, she had a security detail from, I believe, Capitol Hill police. As Minority Leader, I don't know if she will have any at all. It would be nice to meet her, but I don't need unfettered access to her. If I have a problem that might need her office's attention, I'll gladly make appointments, go through metal detectors or just talk to her district staff. I want her and EVERY member to be safe. We give up a little freedom for our own safety, we should give up some access for their safety.

1. I don't think Nancy had a single townhall during Bush's whole
second term. She may have had one.

You don't have unfettered access to her. In fact, you don't have any access to her. You can call and speak to a receptionist, that's about it.

2. They should be safe, even more safe then other people in society.
Since lack of safety can be used as intimidation, the intent of violent people.

I do hope for the safety of people in office in many places, public and private, because intimidation should not be used for those things.

3. The Speaker of the House is a little different than a regular congressperson.
She was second in line to the presidency.

4. Our Congressman is extremely popular in our district.
We really like him. He holds town-hall coffees frequently, and lots of people attend. Usually, but not always, police officers are present.

I hope they don't end. He is such a nice guy. I can't imagine anyone hurting him. But he doesn't hold meetings in supermarkets. He holds them in schools and other publicly owned places.
