Al-Maliki Warns against Civil War in Iraq
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki warned that the establishment of additional federal regions in Iraq would lead to civil war. In a meeting with Baghdad’s tribal leaders, he said that the Iraqi government has treated all the Iraqi groups and parties equally. He added that the constitution may allow the formation of federal regions under certain circumstances, but does not sanction the partitioning of Iraq.

Mailiki’s warning comes after a speech by Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama Nujeifi in which he addressed the grievances of the Sunnis in Iraq. Nujeifi, himself a Sunni, said if the marginalization of the Sunnis continued, they would form a federal region for themselves, modeled on the Kurdish provinces.

Deputy Parliament Speaker Arif Teyfur, a Kurd, likewise issued a statement in favor of establishing federal regions. The statement suggested that "the best solution for Iraq's current problems is the implementation of federalism in Iraq. “Teyfur added, however, that this step must be taken only after the implementation of Article 140 in the constitution, which states that a referendum must be held in Kirkuk to determine its future: whether it will be incorporated in the Kurdish region or remain an Iraqi province.

If we ever leave this will occur. Sunni's and Shia will not get along. Two different tribes and cultures. We will remain in the region forever.
